I shall be visiting Poole for a few days next week, whats there to do in Poole/Swanage other than the beaches? Any nice restaurants for the evening etc?

You've got Poole Quay which has numerous pubs and cafes along it.
Chinese : City Bay Views on West Quay road
Italian : La Lupa 3 on Poole Quay ,Topogigio on the high street just off poole quay
They are my favs.
Not too sure about Swanage though as its quite small
Not particularly anything special to do in Poole mainly shopping

Pack your swimshorts and go here.. http://www.splashdownpoole.co.uk/

However, likely to be full of kids on their school hols at this time of year. Still, I went a few summers ago and while it was busy, it was still great fun.

cafe shore in sandbanks but pricey
worth going over the chain ferry between sandbanks and shell bay if youve not done it before (costs though)
old harry rocks from the Banks Arms in Studland is a nice walk
corfe castle between poole and swanage (www.corfecastle.co.uk)
why jewellers to spend your hard earned cash (www.whyjewellers.co.uk)
could get the steam train from Corfe to Swanage
scott arms for a pub lunch if you didnt go to the Banks Arms on the purbecks
or a boat trip to brownsea island (www.dorsetcruises.co.uk)
Plenty of walks across the Purbecks. Lulworth cove etc.

Loch Fyne for fish restaurant in Canford Cliffs. Compton Acres for some nice gardens.

Poole Quay has gone a bit trendy and full of nobbers, still some old pubs down there and plenty of them.
Friday night the quay is closed off to cars and they have 'Quay for my car' nights. Red sports cars, minis, beetles etc
http://www.poole.gov.uk
Tuesday night is bike night.
Fireworks from Sandbanks on Thursdays (I think)

There are loads and loads of restaurants around Poole/Bournemouth. What type of food do you want?

Beavers restaurant in Swanage and numerous fish and chip shops. Not too much else to do in Swanage, lovely place though, going to retire there .

As for Poole, visit Tower park for Splashdown and lots of restaurants. Poole Quay has pubs and a few la-di-da wine bars (rip off prices though)

I've ben down that way today, and went to monkey world,an ape rescue centre near poole. I have never in all my life seen so many grossly overweight people, loads of them hired out mobility charriots to get round on, it should be renamed 'trouble with me glands world'. The place itself was a bit dissapointing, not one clowns costume, or nappy to be seen, and none of the chimps smoked
