I had quite a few nights out there many years ago. Great nightlife, much better than going into Liverpool (which was the least enjoyable place I have ever been drinking).
Can't remember the names any of the watering holes, but they all seemed to good. HTH (but probably didn't).

I'm too old to be able to recommend anywhere these days... but head for Waverley Street as that's where its all happening now.
Avoid Havana, which is a bit brash and bargain basement, Maloney's in the Scarisbrick and Sugar Bar are ok.

Beware of Southport. One weekend, nearly 40 years ago, my parents left my big brother & sister with my grand parents and went to Southport for the weekend. And they came back with me!

Not a bad pub to be had really, a couple of spit and sawdust types on the outskirts (even Southport has its scummy areas)
Best night I have in that part fo the world now is 8 pints in The Grapes in Formby followed by 8 cocktails in Shorrocks Hill in Formby so much rich fit bird attention - a special place (if a bit clicky)
Southport town centre - all we do is start at Weatherspoons at one end of Lord Street, and then head towards the other end of Lord Street calling into every hotel/bar we can along the way (sidestreets included)
Never any trouble at all, I often sit at the benches outside the Prince of Wales at 2am and hurl abuse at passers by and only once in many years has a chap come over to question my parentage
Oh and the garage at Kew Island sells good **** mags should you be getting a taxi home out of town that way and not tapped off whilst out

Dont forget Pontins in Ainsdale if there is a Line Dancing weekend on. Unfortunately you are a bit early for a decent weekender at Pontins.........
