In what context? You may be able to own one if you are in the millitary or police, but I expect you'd get done as a civie walking down the street with one in your pocket.

I'd say merely owning one will mean proving reasonable force in self defence will be that much harder.
A ball peen hammer on the other hand is quite acceptable as you've been using it around the house/are taking it over to the house. One whack from one of those on a kneecap will see your target crippled for life and you neatly fitting into the definition of reasonable force.

NB - CS Gas (although OK for the UK police to have) is illegal to personally own, if you get caught with it you can face upto 5 yrs in prison, it falls into Section 5 of the Firearms license which also covers machine guns etc.

Big no no. Had one and quickly sold it when my friend (who bought his at the same time as me) got caught with his in the car; got a court appearence and a nice fine (350.00 plus costs) - Judge told him it could have been up to £1k.

Not worth the risk.

hehe, ball peen hammers. In the 90's my friend owned a business making parts for landys. This bloke kept coming and asking for steel/scrap and would always be turned away. One day all the scrap was gone and some of the supplies while this bloke had been round. Big Al saw the guy told him to **** off. This chap fancied his chances some what and started the "do you want some?!" speil until big Al put a 2 inch hole in his skull. Hehe ,instant vegetable, just add hammer.
One of my friends carries an extendable baton with him ever since his girlfriend was attacked in town. Get stuffed for carrying a concealed weapon blah blah but I doubt anyone would care.

Non self-opening batons (ASP -as used by police officers- and similar) are quite legal: but not down yer trousers on a Saturday night 'round town.

Europe-legal stun guns are included in a similar ammendment. They can also have you for delivering a noxious substance too.....

My hubby used to keep one in his van, he worked in a VERY dodgy area for a while and had been threatened before so bought it just in case.
