Petty & officious
I’d be interested in your comments on the following situation that took place yesterday (Sunday)
Situation: Dual carriage road, traffic lights at red, lane 1 me (53 Scooby estate), lane 2 police transit
The lights changed and I pulled away, now I didn’t floor the accelerator.. but neither did I crawl away from the lights because there was a police vehicle beside me.. in short I pulled away as if it was nothing more than a builders transit beside me (but staying within the limit)
And I accelerated to the speed limit (40 mph) and held it there (because of the police vehicle behind me and stopped at the next ‘wave’ of traffic
And with that the police transit put on its blue lights and pulled me in
The following conversation took place
Me: Is there a problem ?
Female PC driving the van: Yes you were speeding
Me: I was ?? I didn’t think so.. what speed did you register ?
PC: Well I had to go up to 55 to catch up with you (I didn’t think till later that there was no mention of my speed)
There was no other problem reported (no driving or ‘road use’ issues.. just the speed)
In the end I didn’t get a speeding ticket ‘just’ product documents
But I have several questions
.It means nothing that she had to do 55.. that’s nothing to do with my speed
.How could the police van tell what speed I was doing anyway, don’t police cars that can give tickets out have to have calibrated Speedos & training
. Can a police transit just pull you in like this
To me it just looked like the transit thought I was being ‘disrespectful.. and decided to give me a hard time to show was in charge
Can they just do this , should we show due deference to all police vehicles by staying obviously below the speed limit ?

Make a complaint about her behaviour and attitude explaining the situation as here, including the fact she felt it necessary to break the speed limit to catch up with you.
Maybe they'll teach her how to drive, the stupid ****.

I had a similar experience with a policeman years ago.
"Well sir, I had to do 90 to catch you"
Considering he was in a lay by, I'm not surprised, he would have to be doing 30mph more than me to catch me up in 30 seconds if I had travelled a paltry half mile before he got up to my speed!
They just don't seem to get it.
