Red face Resigning Today!

12 months ago I left my previous employers with whom I had build a great career over 9 years rising to the dizzy heights of middle management (Process Improvements Manager), a role that I was good at and enjoyed a lot. Problems began there when they announced a cull of middle management and a significant change in the direction that the company was to move in.
Around 500 middle managers were offered voluntary redundancy, including me and at 4 weeks for every year I thought I would take the money and find something else in a Business Analyst capacity.
I was headhunted by an IT company who provide IT solutions to the government and other organisations. I was offered more money and all looked rosy.
Since joining in October, it has been the worst employment experience of my life
I've had some poo jobs in my time, but the antiquated management style, bullying, lack of support, direction etc was driving me to despair... I complained to management who listened and did nothing. Then I started taking advantage of "working from home" a bit too much, flew over the radar and HR started scrutinizing my every move, making life very difficult indeed, couple that to the ineptitude of my management team and I have decided its time to leave...
So this morning I have my letter typed and ready, my boss coming to my office in the next half hour and its time to go.
I can afford to leave without something else, but the sooner I get interviews and offers the better - naturally!
If anyone knows of any Business Analysis / Process Improvement type roles in the North West please drop me a line
Here's hoping for gardening leave...

Its my last day in the office too (contract ends), and for the work experiance its been brillinat. 1 major downside has been the director, for an IT comms company they couldn't orgainise a pee up in a brewery.. To cap it all, I think they have just fluffed up my wages too.

And tehy were to stingy to put me on gardening leave, so I've been sat here for 2 weeks doing naff all, taking the of odd day for "interviews", so don't be supprised if they make you work your notice.

Good luck and hope you find your dream job.

Hey there's a co-incidence, I'm a Process Improvement Manager too

Things aren't too bad here now though Paul but one thing that hasn't changed is change itself. There is almost constant 're-structuring' and we are currenty merging with another department.

Good luck in your job search!

Fella, I regret leaving there to a point, mainly because there were so many fit birds and on a dress down Friday when the weathers like this it was amazing

Seriously though, its going to be challenging, but Im up for applying like billyo and removing the pressures of being here.... Now where's my flipping boss!!

Yeah there is loads of fanny in the call centre but up here on the first floor you don't get to see that much.

I ended up getting my brakes done at Subaru in the end by the way. Even with the new pads and discs they seem quite unresponsive though.

what are they like on yours?

Tim I got the Ferrodo pads and noticed a difference, especially after hard driving
Steve, Bro's doing OK, currently doing an MCSE boot camp thing so I havent seen him or spoken to him all week, just the odd text from him in between mind melts!
My job as a Business Analyst involves, speaking to lots of people, pooling knowledge, designing work flows (processes), getting sign off for them, pushing them into a live environment and then reviewing their success before moving onto the next project... Lots of workshops, presentations, reviews, conference calls, sitting in product sales pitches and asking questions etc...
Average wage up here for it is appx £30k, contractors and conultants raking in about £3-400 a day... Hopefully a good opportunity will come my way soon...

For sure. I left my last job in March, thinking I would find something similar quickly but hit a real dip in the market, even though I am pretty generic (in IT sales, everybody needs those type of people??)
Took me 3 months to find/secure a new role all the while eating into savings which is the worst feeling. I was told by all the agents I wouldn't get a job at the salary level I needed (6 figures) even though I had been earning that for the last 6 years at my last 2 jobs !!
I did eventually but savings took a hammering, its a shock how quickly they deplete when there is no $$$ coming in.

Good luck, but learn from my mistake which was to kick back & relax too much - get out there asap looking for a new job, if I had that time again I would have done more of that and less of the lazing about walking the dog & such like.

I know what you mean Ro, I have been told I have to work my 1 month notice (no gardening leave) but that my boss has said I can ease up on the hours as he know I will be focussing more on me than the company.
As a result I will spend as much time as I can searching and applying without taking the pee too much - as that evil woman from HR will be watching!!
After I quit my last place in July 05 I took 1 month out to cycle, sunbathe and chill then it took me a further month to land this role and a further month after that for contracts to be signed and security checks to be done. In total 3 months off, but I had planned for that..
Same applies here really, you're right about the savings being eaten up, but I save for rainy days amongst other things so its kind of budgeted for. If things werent so bad I would stick it out and look while here for as long as it takes, but alas this company smells bad, really bad!

Cool, good luck with it all & enjoy a bit of a relax - I am now back at work after my time off & it was such a culture shock being back it was horrid !

Dr Hu - yep have earned over £100k for several years now, working for 2 very large research houses selling IT research (ie not software or hardware)

I now work for a company selling software & my base salary is around the £70k mark & I will earn well in excess of my £120k OTE.
Not boasting or anything, but believe me, £100k odd a year really doesn't go that far when you have a house, kids, 2 cars & everything else to pay for - my wife doesn't work so only 1 income, frightening how far it doesn't go !

I've worked as an Analyst for the last several years, not on a mega high salary, but enough to keep me afloat!

This has involved various degrees of project management, of varying natures

MI, Reporting, Statistics
Spreadsheet improvisation
Resource & Cost Modelling etc.
Performance Management (Measurements & Metrics)
Process Improvements & Initiatives & Variances
Process Conformance & Constraints
Standard timings & Variances
User Acceptance Testing
System

Etc. There’s loads more…..

My point here, is that roles like this are “specialist”, and can make the foundation of a company, providing the job is there of course. I had heavy involvement with the MD’s daily decisions, so couldn’t afford any mistakes!

Concentrate on the specific strong points on your CV, go into light detail leaving room for expansion at interviews as I did

Well, I left my former employer on the 14th August and took 2 weeks away to chill out on a cruise round the med (I recommend the Island Star to everyone
Then home to apply like billyo for as many different Business/Systems Analyst roles as there are in the north west...
Yesterday I got the job offer of my dreams
Back in 1997 I joined a mobile phone service provider who were unfortunately bought out in 2000 by a national brand. The sp kept the rights to its billing systems (of which I was a "super user" coming into work wearing a cape etc ) and sold the billing system and support on to numerous mahoosive companies (and some smaller ones)... I loved working there, the culture, the people, the xmas parties and on Monday I return!!!
So the massive gamble of leaving a full time permanent role to go to nothing in the hope of landing something better couldnt have paid off more
Needless to say champagne and stella dont mix and I'm on my 4th pint of water this morning and I still havent peed , but who cares!! A good news story for once
Get in!

Congratulations for having the ***** to do it.

Life is way too short to spend a good proportion of doing a job that makes you miserable! Yet, lots of people do!

Whereabouts in NZ? I want to move there.

I was treated prety badly by my last place, constantly asking more of me and getting nothing in return except angry looks when I said "no". I came in one Monday to an angry email telling me I'd done no work and I "needn't concern myself with the current project any longer", from a project manager that hadn't spoken to me in two months.

So I quit the next day, got a contract, $salary *= 2, $stress -= $stress, job done, goodbye idiots Good luck in your new jobs chaps

I'm off to Wellington. We land in Auckland on Monday 27th November and are being picked up at the airport by the salesman from the Subaru dealership just south of the airport(!!!!!). We'll pick up the new car (2003 JDM STi), stay 1 night in Auckland then head south for Wellington.

Already been offered a job and I've only been looking for 2 weeks!!!!

Seriously, go for it.....there's no second chances.
