Question Which MP3 player?

Hi all,

Im sure these things have already been superceded by brain imbedded nano technology but...

What do I go for?

I only know of Ipod and Creative Labs MP3 players but im sure there are others.

Need it to be small, so a Nano with 4gb would be spot on. Not too fussed about video (do Nano do that?) About £150 would be good. Would like about 10hrs battery life min. And dont want a white one!

All my music is on CD and I have a laptop to work on.

What do I go for then?? Are the headphones any good?

iPod Nano's come in white or black. They don't have video capabilities like their larger bretheren, mainly due to the small screen size. The headphones that are supplied with them, and any iPod are ok, but I'd probably invest in a better pair to be honest.

They aren't perfect, and unless you wish to use third-party software, you'll need to use iTunes to add your music to the little beastie, but that's usually very simple to do.

I've played with a Sony mp3 player and the design of it was rather nice, but the software was PC only and it seemed to convert the files from MP3 into something else (ATRAC3?) before copying, which slowed things down, though I could be wrong on that score. Even still.

My vote would go to the iPod, some don't like it, many do.

I got one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-2GB-MP3-Pl...QQcmdZViewItem

Paid £20 delivered for it back in April really small and light weight, stick it straight into the USB port on my PC and copy a whole album to it in minutes, Battery life is pretty good and no problems with the music quality. Suited me just perfect for when I go running etc. Probably a bit on the cheap end for you though if you have an £150 budget Cant believe people want a 4gig one though, Hate having too much on my MP3 cause I spend too much time deciding what I want to listen too rather than actually listening too it...lol

I know what you mean about the memory - I would just stick it on shuffle!

That's one neat little unit though, and I doubt an Ipod is £140 better??

So if you put a CD in your drive on the PC, I presume they aren't in MP3 format? So the Ebay one would need dowloaded music from a website?

Check out www.advancedmp3players.co.uk - they have a wide range from a whole load of different manufacturers. The iRiver units generally get good reviews. I bought Mrs C a Cowon iAudio5 for xmas last year and she seems pleased enough with that too.

With any MP3 player you need to rip your CDs and then convert them to MP3 format - they usually come with software to do this, but I use CDex which is free, fast, reliable and easy to use.
