Cycling to work?
I've recently, started riding my bike to work, leaving the Scooby behind 8( but definitely feeling the benefit health-wise, apart from the odd numpty in their car changing the CD and swerving around the road a bit...
Just wondered how many people on here cycle to work and how far.
1. Me 5 days a week and 18 mile round trip?
cheers

I used to do, about 5 miles round trip.
Gave it up after the foul weather started as I was getting to work soaked from the outside without rainwear, or from the inside with rainwear.
Added to that THREE near misses with lorries in about 6 days. Scary!
They just don't seem to SEE down to cyclist level. No good being fit and dead!

2 day shifts then 2 night shifts. 25mile round trip.
If it's lashing down I'll take the car thanks
This may be of interest:
Have a look at the Ride2Work scheme. Savings of around 50% on a new bike taken as monthly payments off your top-line.

Have managed to keep on going through the rain but lucky enough that I've got some showers at work and a place to let my clothes dry.
Cyclist do get bad press from most car drivers, going through red lights, etc but the level of car driving I've witnessed is scary. Cars blasting through red lights, coming straight out in front of me on round abouts!! Found that need to ride as if every car driver is out to get me!! Always try to get eye contact with cars coming upto round abouts and junctions, gives a good clue on whether they're paying attention or not.
Just my two penneth

Was able to do this yesterday afternoon as my tools are at a customers house while I carry out 3 days of work.
Did 3.5 miles each way and enjoyed every inch of it.
Even going to do the same this morning, setting off in a few mins.

For my first 3 years working here I used to cycle to and from work. its 3.5miles each way but the last mile of it is up a very steep hill, I could do about 2.5miles in 10minutes on flat land and took me another 10 minutes to get up that damn hill to work, in the summer I was sweating and stinking and in the winter I was pi55ed wet through, its just not worth it anymore IMO even taking change of clothes etc I still wanted a shower all day. plus I cant go into town on my dinner break so means being stuck at work all day long....
Car all the way for me and go running at 10pm instead for my fitness now. Play football once a week (twice when the proper season starts again)

I'd love to, but it's 14 miles each way.... Oh, and right through the (Derby) city centre.
As much as I would enjoy it (and CAN do it, the sheer risk scares me witless!)

Used to, then in dinnertime would go out for a blast back home, quick shower then back to work in the car. Now, best I can do on my bike is taking all the local kids out and my own for rides around the area
Cleaned my mountainbike yesterday though, so that means I now have to go get it dirty again

I used to do it when I worked around 13 miles from work. I'm now 35ish miles away so its a bit impractical now. However looking at moving closer to work so maybe able to start again
I do a lot of mtb'ing anyway so its a good way of keeping my fitness levels up. Plus I now work in the Peak District so if I can start doing it again it will be a nice ride.
Being a car enthusiast and an avid biker I can see both sides of the coin with regards to how drivers/riders act towards each other and general road sense. I think it just boils down to the individual, plus when i'm riding I have the mentallity that'l i'll look after myself and keep out of the way of cars so don't moan when I hop up a kerb and miss out some lights. I'm doing the environment more good by riding to work than the people driving 2miles each way are, so having a few perks is fine (IMHO)
