12 Year old daughter wants her belly button pierced
Just wanting to gage reaction to the question of "would you let your 12 year old daughter have her belly button pierced?"
She has just turned 12 (other week) and my Ex misses phoned yesterday to tell me she had it done. I'm not happy about it at all, but thought I might be over-reacting a little bit.
Would you let your daughter have it done? Both men and womens views are encouraged please.
Thanks Phill

Personally I think adornments like this ought to be left until closer to the age of sexual consent. There's a danger of making children too sexually mature-looking with inappropriate make-up, jewellery and clothing.

No - or more to the point I would ask her not to
I would ask her to wait until she was 15/16 and can make a more informed choice
but then again my daughter is 6 and I aint looking forward to questions like these in few years time.
to be honest in your shoes I would be more annoyed with the Ex for doing it before discussing it with you

16, if shes lucky.

what next? G-string and wonderbra?
just for context.......my eldest is 11, if my wife had that done without asking me she would be looking for somewhere to sleep!

I'm dreading this type of topic when my two start asking (they're 3 & 6 at the moment)....
IMHO, I would cite example that my mum & dad never let my sister have her ears pierced until she was older (about 16 IIRC) and deffo the same with wifey!!!
Our upbringing was good enough for us - will try to pass it on to our kids

My daughter asked to have hers pierced as a 16th birthday present. I struggled with it then TBH. In the end I caved in, figuring that it was better to allow her to express herself in this way, rather than possibly a more permanent tattoo......... Agree with everyone else though, your daughter is far too young IMHO. Whatever happened to childhood.......?

Just as I thought then. Looks like I haven't over-reacted....
What the hell was my Ex-wife thinking I've got four daughters (12,10,8 and 6) What next my youngest wanting her tongue done
Anyway, it's done now and my daughter wishes she'd waited.
I wonder if there's a legal age to have parts of your body pierced?

As a Mum and a woman
hmmmm it would be a defo NO
I have a 7 year old and I am dreading her growing up and wanting stuff like this, I will however will hold out till she is 16.
Kids today look way older than what they are, I quote " What happened to childhood"

My parents flatly refused to let me have my ears pierced until I was 16 , then I got it done as a birthday present but was only allowed to wear stud earings for ages .
did I gain anything by having my ears pierced .........nope !

No.
We managed to resist this and my daughter is now 20! Lives at home between uni pubs and the odd bit of work. Ears only allowed. Basically she knows how we would feel about it. Bit old fashioned perhaps. Same with tattoos but for all I know she may have a discreet butterfly on the bum but that's up to her. Tongue piercing has got to be worst and I do object to babies in prams with earings!!

I would say no as well. Far too young in my opinion. My daughter is 9 and I want to keep her a child as long as possible. They grow up far too fast enough as it is.
I also agree with the poster who didn't like babies in prams with ears pierced. Apart from looking awful, these babies didn't have a choice to have that done to them. It was done to them because their parents wanted it done, not them.

IMO piercings anywhere else but ears looks awfull anyway, so my opinion might be biased when I say that she most deffo should not have had it done.
Also find tatoos look so wrong on women/girls.
Just my opinion though
Im just glad I have a son

My 14 year old recently showed me her pierced mouth
She never asked for permission etc. I thought-great! I couldn't do anything about it,anyway because madam has already got it done<shrugs>
After 3 days,I discovered that it was a fake magnetic ring she was wearing to wind me up!
I would try to convince my daughter about the H&S implications re. so, if I were you.Get her some fake belly buttons. It is very difficult to handle children of today when they are entering teens or,going through teen years.
Simplest objection and they give you "I hate you" eye

Height of chav. All the chavvy little girls have got themselves skewered and your daughter wants to be just like them. That can only be attributable to bad upbringing.

You just don't know!
They are so unpredictable at this age!
I must say that my son is an angel:.I am lucky in that aspect.

She may have her tummy button pierced now, which he is not happy about, but I'm sure Babber's 12 year old daughter has better manners than you. Parents who care about what their children do tend give them a good upbringing. I can only assume that you don't have any children or you would not have made that stupid comment.
