Shock, Horror, Gasp!
I just glanced up from the keyboard to look out of the window and saw our Maine Coon, Bud, sitting on the outside window ledge! (im on the 2nd floor)
The windows were open a bit, but he's a big boy and must have pushed it further and climbed outside, I nearly died. I screamed of N3 DOO who came up and pursuaded him he was best off coming back inside (scruffed him and dragged him in)
My hearts still thumping now, what a fright.

He's 24lb and barely fits on the inside window ledge, the outside one is half the size.
When I chased him out of the room he ran downstairs and tried to do the same on the living room window, but its about 1.5m off the ground and he can't jump that high
His new nickname is Evil Kenevil.

I hope for your sake that beastie doesn't have my cat's other really annoying habit then!
If I sleep past 6 o'clock, she tends to break into the bedroom in a morning and lie on my chest, just to remind me that it's food time

Our house in Wales had no internal doors, his trick was to lie between us in the bed until one of us gave in and went to feed him.
Luckly this house has doors and we can shut him out of the bedroom, but he lies in the door way all night! He follows us around like a dog does, at the moment he is on the floor by my chair flat out on his back with his legs in the air

My cat fell out our 1st floor window a few months back, that's wet plastic window ledges for you......he was fine, injured pride only...
Now I can't remember where I got his from but I'm pretty sure it's better for cats to fall from more than 7 stories than from 2-7.
It has something to do with termainal velocity and after a cat reaches it, it relaxes more making the landing safer. For falls between 2 and 7 stories a cat is still accelerating and more pannicked making the landing harsher.
I'm pretty sure this came for a research done by vets analysing fall injuries.........I'm pretty sure.

When I first saw this thread I thought someone had a tame racoon from Maine. I was amazed that someone had tamed such a viscious blighter.
I now realise you have a much scarier beast.
Is a Maine Coon cat a really common breed which makes me an ignoramus, or are you making a bold assumption that everyone will know what the **** you are talking about?

If he stands up on his back legs his paws and chin reach the kitchen work top, everything has to be pushed back or he will swipe it off.

And with his cat brother Taz the Bengal (this was taken 1 and a half years ago, Taz is 3 month older than Bud and is average size, 10lb)
