Lets celebrate the real heros today
Not those 11 jumped up poofs plastered all over the front page today
but the 150000 who died in the somme. True heros of this country, and I am sure if the" hard" thugs of today were put in their position, they would cry like babies.

I think it is actually disrespectful to compare footballers to fallen soldiers, incomparable, nobody got shot today, it doesnt matter in the slightest that we are out of the world cup, its a fun diversion from real life, not a conflict.
Besides Stella was rationed in WW2.

personaly i have as much interest in football as i do battles from 100 years ago (ie very little)
but dont you think the typical soilder alive then would have been pretty interested in watching a world cup football match?
not sure they died so that in years to come people could say "cor, werent they better than people that play sports"

No offence but we owe them nothing they joined the army as a patriotic ideal doesn't make them heroes.Yes they had very little choice but i don't call dying being very heroic. What makes the soldiers in the Somme anymore heroic then any other soldiers who died?
As J4CKO said they have their day every November just like all the service personnal ranging from the lowest rank to the highest.

I am struggling to comprehend the logic behind your post. Nobody is saying they are any more or less heroic than any other soldier killed in conflict but to spare a thought for them is hardly wrong is it? Joining the army may have been a patriotic ideal but they gave the ultimate sacrifice.

It's quite unbelievable that some of you guys are having a go at todays events. The reason the Somme is remembered more so than any other battle is because of the shear number of soldiers that died in such a short time, the slaughter was horrific.

They charged German lines KNOWING it was futile AND they would die, BUT in the hope that SOMEHOW it would help.... they wrote Goodbye letters to their wifes and children then went over the top and were cut down... best friend alongside best friend.....
Keep flipping those burgers sonny, and try not to hurt your brain by thinking too much.......
