Is it possible to back up itunes? I've spent loads of money and time downloading stuff would be gutted if my PC crashed and I lost it all.

What if you only have a PC/Mac and no external hdd, but only a ipod.
I believe that the ipod you can use as an external hdd, not sure how you do that tho??

For stuff you've bought from iTunes you can re-download anyhow. I keep an extra backup of the entire directory where I store all the tracks, I have the originals and I have a copy on my iPod that anapod can copy off if I loose all the others.
Hopefully that should suffice.

I've just started using a program called Xplay (V2). Ive junked iTunes, as this Xplay allows you to 'drag and drop' files EITHER WAY. You open up the IPOD in 'My Computer', (as ext HDD), and away you go. Its great being able to 'copy back' to the computer. Program is by a company called mediafour. This is for backup purposes only though.........
Proby.
PS - Ive just read the post PROPERLY and realised that you need to back up from your PC, not IPOD itself. OOpppss. Xplay still worth a look thou!

I've got my Music folder at the root of my hard drive and I've replaced the iTunes Music folder that's in ~/Library/Music/iTunes with an alias to this Music folder. This means that a) I don't need to dig around for the folder, and b) if I need to recreate my user account, I don't lose the music.
I backup this music to my external firewire drive every now and then. Plus as I've got an iPod, all the music is on there acting as another backup. If I needed to restore from the iPod then I'd use Podworks to do so. I've done this a few times in the past when rebuilding my machines from scratch.
If you're going to back things up, I'd problably go for the whole iTunes folder, as that'll include the iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library Files, along with the iTunes Music folder. that should, if I'm correct, get all your music, plus your playlists as well.
If you don't have an external drive, then copy that folder to somewhere else on your hard drive.

As I said I have several different backups anyway, this is just a last resort.
There are definitely programs out there which allow transfer from the iPod to a PC if all else fails.

I just backed up all my music (and other files) to a bunch of blank dvds via the dvd writer. Easy & cheap and no need to waste money on external hard disks.
