just in the process of upgrading my broadband to a new supplier who offer 24mb. Looking at my line stats I have a high attenuation of 46db so I will get nowhere near the 24mb. I am fairly close (approx 1 mile) from the exchange so I am wondering if bt can do something in the green boxes to reduce the attenuation. I had a problem last year with dropping connection all the time and it was down to a wet joint, so I am thinking although the engineer fixed this, could there be more that they can do?

That's a high loop att. for only one mile from the exchange. You must have fairly crappy wires between you and the exchange. The only thing they might be able to do is to move your line onto another pair. Particularly if there is a newer cable available in the cabinet they might be able to move you onto a pair on that cable.
What speed have you got now? Normally I wouldn't expect to see much more than 1Mb on that. Do you know your signal to noise ratio?

i am on bulldog 2mb at the mo and it is fine i get the full 2 mb
stats are downstream 2272 and up 288
SNR is 15 but If I connect to the test socket I get 24 so internal wiring causes a loss in the SNR dept, however this doesnt affect my 2mb connection which is rock stable. The attenuation only goes down to 45 db when connected to the test so the line itself is noisy.
When I had the problem last year, it also caused a noisy line on the telephone so bt fixed it without charge as there was obviously a fault, so even though it is now working "ok" there is still a lot of noise (just not audible on the phone itself). The phone line itself I think may only be 7 years old as it is a relatively new property, however it was built where some old houses were previously so could be older.
Can bt actually tell me the distance of my route to the exchange?
