Ebay/paypal shaft over on missing item in post
Hi,
Sold a motorcycle part on ebay for about £150. Send it off to Italy, got a receipt. Buyer didn't pay for insurance (althought it wasn't offered).
Buyer now informs me that they still haven't recieved it and have filed a Paypal dispute.
Paypal state I need to have send the parcel using some kind of tracking or else the dispute could fall in favour of the buyer.
Who's at fault here, and how do you know he isn't pulling as fast one.
Why should I loose out? - Loose all my money and the item thanks to the post office
Only glimer of hope is that the dude doesn't have a confirmed address as stated as a requirement to be covered by the Paypal protection policy....
Comments appreciated.

You must send it by a method of being able to track the item. eg when/where posted, where in transit, when/where/to who delivered.
Basically it is totally skewed in the direction of the buyer.
Good luck

Not having a confirmed address works in the buyers favour as sellers shoukd only send to confirmed addresses. Either way PAYPAL always side with the buyer even though you pay their fees ! It's total bull and yes the buyer could quite easily be pulling a fast one.

I sent an item to Morocco and paid an extra £3.50 to use a 'track and trace' system.
The person never received the item and upon investigation I was told the track and trace only worked in the UK- even though it was for international post.
Apparently, the destination county must have an agreement with the UK to be able to carry on tracking the parcel to it's destination, and Morocco didn't have this type of agreement ~ wonder if it was the same for Italy
Needless to say, I lost my money for the item, and postage and the item iteself, (thankfully it was under a tenner).

The Italian PO are rubbish, and notorious for losing ( borrowing ) parcels.
But, look at it from the buyers point of view - he sent you £150 plus P&P in good faith, you say you sent the part, but have no proof, and he hasnt got anything.
Doesnt matter if the buyer pays for insurance or not, you should send it so YOU are covered if it gets lost - in fact, anything you are sending overseas, ONLY offer buyers insured methods, or dont sell overseas !
Paypal will find in the buyers favour unless you can provide tracking info, if you got proof of posting, you will be able to claim back £30 maximum, and the rest you're going to have to treat as an expensive lesson.
International Signed For is trackable in loads of countries ( but check with RM if it can be tracked where you're sending it to ), and only costs a few quid to add to the posting cost.

thanks for the responses.
from the general consenus it looks like i'm shafted and will loose my money on it
However I hold hope for the 'confirmed address' as it was unconfirmed and wasn't his personal address.
Has anyone had any success with their international missing shippments and PayPal.

First thing to do it to empty your paypal account !
Its worth re-reading this as I'm sure some of the stuff is rather dubious.
Might be worth offering a 50% refund as neither party can proove delivery or non delivery !

I know it's no help in this case, but to avoid any such problems in the future you might like to adopt the simple rule that I always follow when selling on Ebay: I post EVERYTHING fully insured unless the buyer wants to collect in person and pay cash.
Offer to ship without insurance and you're just asking to be accused of non-delivery IMHO - and even if things do genuinely get lost in the post, you're not going to be out of pocket.
By insisting on insurance you're only losing out on those bidders who won't pay for it, which (IMHO again) isn't much of a price to pay for the protection you're getting.
Sorry this sale didn't work out - hope you get it resolved OK.

Flippin heck!
I only get three options on the dispute:
I don't want to choose any!
- Refund the buyer
- Provide tracking information
- I've already refunded the buyer, heres the proof
I don't want to choose any!

been bitten before and I have to agree you haven't got much of a case
that is why I always put in my auctions to cover this - and for expense items I only post special delivery - If I ship abroad, I agree with the buyer by email that they accept the risk.
"If you do not take out insurance offered then I will aquire a proof of posting and any issues with post are your responsibility"
