Question Tom Tom on the Nokia N70

Hi Just ordered the N70 & would like to no if any one has used the Tom Tom 5 application on the N70, if so is it any good ? What sort of price is it ? (found it for £200 on the tom-tom site, sure there must be a cheaper option?)

Thanks

Cheers, just had a look, there is one for £74.99. I am going to E-Mail a couple of the people that have bought them and see if there any good.

Depends on the firmware.

I flashed mine to v5.0609.2.0.1 and found a great improvement.

It's never going to be as nimble as a S40 handset, but I think that for a S60 handset it's pretty good

Hi Burr, that sounds great but for the dummies on here how do you flash your phone and what would you gain by doing this ? Cheers.

I had TomTom on my N70, it worked but conked out occasionally and the screen was too small, bought a Garmin C310 from Halfords for 200 quid, miles better.

N70 is ok, can be a bit clunky, buttons a bit too small even if you dont have Sausage Fingers, slow to start up but how often do you actually turn it off ?

I run tomtom on my N70. It's OK as long as you don't have POI's (points of interest) enabled. If you do it crashes from time to time.

Lots of info here, but basically make sure you have the latest firmware.

My brother is thinking of getting the N80, he was talking to a guy today at Vodafone who said the battery life isn't great as he has to charge it every day and if your bothered about the camera it doesn't have auto focus so it can be hard to get a reasonable pic.

Does anyone fine the battery life this bad, I would have thought the battery life should last longer than a day or so???

Battery life seems to be pot-luck, the reviews seem to range from 1/2 a day to 5 days ! Does any one no if its a one of charge for Tom Tom or if you then have a monthly charge on top of that.

Also heard you can get TV on it !!! is that correct ! ?

Well after a few days with the phone I really like it, havent had to charge yet ( on 3rd day ). Havent had any probs with ring tones or texting, but it did take an age to start up. Going to wait a little before installing Tom-Tom.

found it easy to use and does the job on my N70 but then again it does lose gps signal sometimes at the start, bit slow in london but that could be said for other tom toms maybe(not sure).

Cheap option but then again a proper tomtom is better as i just bought the new one aswell.

Can I do this from a Vodafone firmware, or does the phone need to be unbranded first - I have a 'Vodafone N70' that is unlocked so I can use my O2 card, but it's covered with Vodafone Live rubbish. Was expecting to have to send off to unbrand to funfoneshop or somewhere similar, but can I do this myself instead using these instructions?

Thx
Joolz

PS. Love the phone - get 3-4 days easily on battery with light-medium use.

Yes - you can. Just choose the ppm file (and CNT) for the branding of your choice.

cheers , just flashed mine to v5

Install of the software is a bit of a faff , and the flashing process is the longest 5 mins of your life but it got through with no issues.

Restored the config backup taken before starting and no loss of data / contacts either
