But then, nor did Thatcher and co when they sold off the water companies, only to see those located in the greedy south fill in, and sell off for development, about 5 of their reservoirs!

Plenty of water up here.
Just jet washed both cars, topped up the pond and watered the garden.
Remember surface reservoirs are not the only source of water. Most companies pull millions of gallons from underground boreholes and these are at very low levels in the south.
Cheers

Far cheaper to fix the current leaks, upgrade the network and fit water meters.

I think the Scots were not to keen on the idea of a national grid, from what I can see most of them are of the view that if they have to sit in the rain all year then they are not going to pipe their water south so they have the hose pipe bans when the sun comes out for 2 days in London.
The best "global warming" story of the week so far is this one:
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...&refer=germany
It seems that "global warming" is going to make the air more dense (no, honest) and this is going to stop the electricity flowing in the overhead cables! What can I say? All these changes in the laws of physics are certainly a most alarming side effect of global warming and it looks like things are not going well for people intending to use hot air balloons.
