Angry Car Jacked

I have anti-hijack on the Scoob, so I suppose it's sods law that the wife was car-jacked in Leeds centre at 4.30 this afternoon Just hope the theiving little F***ers crash and die. The wife is okay BTW and so is my mother-in-law who was in the passenger seat!

Anyway, anyone with access to a trade value book who can tell me what the robbing insurance company are likely to offer for a 2002 51 plate Clio 172 (assuming we never see it again, cos I really don't want to knowing how they drove off from the scene)

In Leeds A bit close to home

Glad your wife and m-in-l are both OK though.

FWIW, Autotrader puts the car at about £5.5-6.5k.

Outside LA Bowl (daughter had been to a party there). Wife got out to let my daughter into the back and left the keys in, engine running (as anyone would really so I cant criticise) mother in law was in front passenger seat.

Theiving scum ran past wife at rear of car and jumped in. Mother-in-law bailed out as the car took off at warp 9 but it was a dead end, so one quick handbrake later and it's coming back at warp 9. Both of them stood in road waving, but no way it was stopping, so they had to dive out of the way. The thief stopped a couple of hundred yards away and picked his mate up.

I don't want the car back now, just want them to die a horrible death whilst doing whatever ram-raid etc that they nicked it for

Theiving f***ing scum should be strung up by the *****, but at least the family are all ok (if shook up)

Scum of the earth.

It would have been pure heaven to have been able to track the car and turn up on their doorstep with some of your mates though.

Don't blame you for not wanting the car back after they've had their filthy hands on it.

Well the car turned up. No idea of the condition except a window smashed (which is a bit weird as they had the keys ) I'm thinking possibly damaged due to impact (chassis flex or similar). What's betting the insurance company want to fob me off with a new window and do nothing about the million miles of tyre wear they used in the first 5 seconds, or the damage to the rims/suspension from banging over a kerb flat out. Or the engine/gearbox damage from some **** driving it flat out for 4 days etc etc etc

Yeah, aimlessly dusting despite the thieves wearing no gloves. Just so they can say "I passed the car and the window was through, so I looked in" just in time for CPS to drop the case, lack of evidence and me have a fookin HOOGE bill for trying to clean aluminium dust off eveything.

ME a cynic? nah, wifes in pieces all over again, ah the joy of crime

the whole family must still be in shock hun... to have your own private possessions taken from you is an awful thing to go through... especially when someone is being violent towards you to take those things.

I've been through 2 armed robberies.. had an axe swung at me... and 2nd time was the gun incident... had it pushed into my back for what seemed like forever.. but was probably only a matter of minutes.I still hate to watch things like that on tv.. with guns and full face balaclavas... and the robberies where over 7 or 8 years ago.

What i'm saying is... your family will suffer for a long time to come yet... certain events will trigger what happened last weekend.

as for the aluminium dust.. yeah.. gets bloody everywhere and it's a bugger to clean off!
lets hope they find something that will lead to catching the buggers!

Sounds like you've had it worse than the family. TBH I'm gobsmacked how much it's effected ME and I wasn't even there, so I can see it might take them a while. It certainly would be nice to catch the little *******, just all the hassle now of getting things back as they were.

She wants to sell the car as soon at it comes back It was mint too. Mind you I can't blame her. If nothing else, I'll be listening for every bloody squeak thinking the engine is about to give up or the chassis is fecked.

Ah well, nice new car for her to look forward to perhaps

Will you get paid out as the key were in the ignition? I guess you should be Ok as the car was still not left unattended.

Lol, yeah they are!

But now I'll be putting it down to the theiving c**ts actions instead of the top build quality

Doesn't sound great, there is n/s damage which they forgot to mention earlier to me and engine oil leak I think it's been doing Dukes of Hazard stylee jumps over the curbs/speedbumps and twatted the sump.

Anyone recommend where it should go around the Leeds area for a full chassis/underbody/mechanical check?

I have just read the wording and it actually states that the policy does not cover loss or damage arising from theft while the ignition keys have been left in the car.
I thought it made mention to the fact that reasonable care should be taken of the keys (and obviously the wife stood next to the car and mother-in-law sat in it would be reasonable) but now I'm worried. Surely though, if you get dragged, thrown from a car they cant use this clause to get out of it

What's the betting I get a phone call refuting the claim shortly

/edit I have re-read this with my legal head on. They were not 'left in' the car as the car had not been left. They haven't disputed a claim, but if they do I think we would have a good case here.

That will be at the discretion of the claims office, you shoulb be ok though as there was a passenger sat in the car so it is not unnatended but you may have to fight them but they will pay out! (i work in insurance)
