Just had a letter from British Gas
They are saying that now based on usage over the last 12 months, they are increasing my monthly payments by 20 quid a month
At the moment I pay them 33 a month, and in 12 months, I have a debit of 48 quid, how the f**k does 20 quid a month (240 quid for the whole year) equate to 48 quid !!!!
Robbing theiving scum
They did this with my electric bill last year, upped it by 7 quid a month, and I was 110 quid in credit, how the **** did they work that one out

It's your job to shop around and keep them on their toes. It's their job to make as much profit from you as possible.
Companies like this rely on consumer complacency. Think about it, 20 million customers paying by direct debit, all nicely £30-£40 in credit every month soon adds up to a tidy bit of interest in their a/c rather than yours

it was only when the government changed the law so you could shop around that prices have rocketed and never come back down
Im now paying 90 quid a month for gas and electric, which is daylight robbery in my view
considering thats nearly double what I was paying 2 years ago, and I actually use less of both now
Yes I know I can shop around but they all stitch you up in the long run
edited to add my Girlfriends house is on a meter, and doesnt cost her that much, and she is on a much higher tariff

Well I just phoned them up and they said its because they have now added the 20% price increase to what I used last year, and added the 48 quid debit, and they came out with that figure
His calculations were actually lower than what the letter says, so he has dropped the amount now to his calculations
bit happier now, but I looked on theenergyshop and it shows that if I switch to powergen I will save nearly 300 quid a year!"!!

I thought mine was bad. I'm paying about £50-£60 a quarter with B/Gas.
Npower I'm paying about £80-£90 a quarter
I have a 2 bed flat, and I though my bills were far too much for the amount of time I spend in it. Especially the Electric bill.

I pay 68 quid and still had to pay 300 quid arrears when I changed, they estimated 450 !
Leccy was in arrears by 167 as well, dont know where it all goes, all I spend my money on is Gas/Electric and various types of insurance, Life, House, 2 cars, gas cover etc.

I don't understand how they can say you're in arrears when they read the meters and set the tarriff
They bill you based on their readings then all of a sudden they say you owe them a fortune

Because a lot of people (me included) pay by direct debit, so they 'guess' at your usage for the year and divide by 12. So you bascially underpay in the winter and overpay in the summer (thereotically).
With all the price increases the 'guess' a year ago isn't going to match your usage so you are in arrears.

Was with Powergen for the last 7 years, then switched to London Electricity recently. I was starting to get a bit miffed by the size of my bills, so I started looking online and realised that PG were ripping me of big style.
I tried to ring PG, but after being on hold for just short of 15 minutes, I hung up.
Switched online. The net result of that was three phone calls and two letters from PG asking me not to switch and offering me lower rates to stay with them.
I'm pretty sure a Bank or BS has an advert on TV along the lines of looking after your exisiting customers rather than just chasing new ones.
So I switched anyway.

They dont always read the meters too, they guess, like my last two meter readings I got cards through the door to say they couldnt access the property to read the meters, yet the meters are outside, and the guy had to walk past the meter cupboards to post the card through my door !!!

I am unfortunate enough to have British Gas as my supplier for both gas and electricity. My monthly DD for the electric is fine, about £20 which is just me in a 2 bedroomed terrace house. No probs.
But as for the gas.. I just don't use it. I haven't had the heating on all winter, and only had the gas fire on twice. I had a £15/mth DD set up with them, and phoned to have it reduced. I got the feeling that they simply didn't believe my meter readings (showing I had not used the gas), put it down to £12 and rebated the overpayment. A few months later I had to do the same pallaver, an argument about no usage, a reduction to £8 a month, and rebated more money. Now I'm down to a £5/mth DD.
You can spend ages on the phone and they don't have a clue.

FFS if you don't like it get your own gas and make your own leccy.
If you've not worked it out we have virtually no gas reserves i the North Sea and we've having to import gas now !
