There is nothing wrong with taking your horse down to the local jet wash 
A friend of mine takes his all the time!!!
He uses the brush to clean its back and sides and then uses the hose to give it a good rinse. He says his horse must really enjoy the thrill because he has to wait for its under-carriage to retract before trotting off on it

I went to Wales Rally and they had a DOG WASH with various settings including sooooper conditioner wow and a bright yellow bay with a spray wash.
