Sky - useless. Any other way of getting BBC HD?
So having got a big **** off HD TV the missus decided that she'd treat me to Sky HD so I can watch the world cup in high def on the BBC (well the games i aren't going to see live ).
Sky online says that the next installation date is 1 Aug Wtf, what good is that? Rang them up and apparantly it says that because HD isn't available yet. The guy said it might be available in time for the world cup and we could get a normal sky box now straight away and upgrade to HD when it's available. Not really interested in that as wouldn't watch any of the other crap that's on.
So is there any other way of getting the BBC HD broadcasts other than waiting to see if Sky pull their finger out?

I said it ages ago HD is being rushed out and Id be suprised if its going to be widely available before the 2nd half of the year and even then only on certain channels. Impressed with Telewest though, theirs has been out a short while already

No, i don't watch Television and have not got Sky so didn't know anything about it until the BBC started advertising that they would be broadcasting the WC in HD a couple/few weeks ago.
Why is it not reasonable to expect that something that they are advertising now should be available within a reasonable timeframe? (say 28 days max) ? End of the day it's they're loss of £300 + £50 a month subscription if they can't supply the service which claim to be able to offer. I'm sure they'll have lost a lot more potential customers as well due to the fact that they can't supply the equipment. Complete mess up on their part. It's not like the world cup came out of no where is it?
Glad i'm going to see all the England group games live and probably the next round or two as well. Just fancied having HD for the other games and for the final.

what colour is the sun on your planet and how many of them are there?
sky have sold 40,000 boxes
which in terms of early adopters is astounding ! Im sure they will get over the loss of one person who wasnt savvy enough to actually pre order
have fun watching the games live anyway!
in all fairness thats the only way to do it anyway and im sure you will have a better time doing that
theres allway pubs for the other games

I never thought i'd ever want to order/buy/own anything that that slimy (unt Murdhoch owns/runs Least it isn't my money
Think it's really bad that the BBC HD service (that we're already funding through the licence fee) is only available (other than the few hundred trial peeps in London) if you pay extra to subscribe to cable or sky! I'm sure that kind of thing isn't in their charter

Jesus Christ. Im not a fan of EXSCOOBY but hes got a hammer and hes hitting that bl00dy nail right on the head.
You are paying for license for the BBC stuff, how quick do you expect them to broadcast it? If they turn off terrestrial TV to send your HD images to you via airwaves what happens to every bugger else that isnt subscribed to digital TV channels eh? They moan. The only way to get digi tv is obviously via Telewest, Sky and NTL. I dont see your problem, they cant install every buggers HD box on the same day can they? your currently at the back of the queue for one yet expect it before every begger else 3 weeks before the WC kicks off. so even if you expect the service within 28 days it still wouldnt be in time for the WC kick off.
p.s. got any spare tickets for the WC cause I'll be in Germany for it lol

Early EARLY adopter tuning in! First day of install for me May 22nd - the first day SKY start
This is when the first bits of hardware go in mate so even though they seem to be in the EPG you cant get at it!
Bloody rip off it is too [gott have it!]

I don't expect delivery before everyone else. I expect a massive company such as sky to be able to install/deliver products that they advertise within a reasonable timeframe (28 days would be after all the England group games )! Employ more installers/have more boxes built!
I'm leaving the ticket organisng to my German colleagues i'm afraid!

They can supply the product but they cant supply the man power to install it, not like ordering a product and sending it to the customer like 90% of the average products people buy.

Hhhmm, the monkey at sky said they had no boxes. Normal Sky+ could be installed within Two days though at any time to suit us he said. So if they could send a installer out to install a normal Sky+ box then why couldn't he install a HD box? I can't believe that it's so hard to install a HD box that the same engineer/installer couldn't do it?
Edit - In fact the guy at Sky said if we have normal Sky installed now then when HD is available it would only take Five minutes to install the new HD box....

as my box arrives on the 30th and i have a high end cinema room to be fair im not bothered
the engineer will simply connect it, add the hdmi cable
ill set it up connect the digi audio lead and make him a cup of tea
any issues or problems my brother in law is a sky installer so ill get him to nip round same day to sort it out
i run a HD projector to a 2 metre screen so this will free up the component imput for my xbox 360
as i work from home im looking forward to this summer immensely!!!
I am doing well work wise and through judicious planning I think Ill see all the WC games !!
im not wound up its just stupid posts like yours make me wonder about peoples common sense
