safest way to recieve money from abroad (concerned it may be a scam)
i had an old accordian for sale on ebay and have been contacted by a german girl who lives in ireland who wants to buy it for her dad in germany.
i've already bumped up the postage cost by £15 and she's had no problem with this, her emails are in dodgy broken english (can go with this as she is supposed to be foreign after all!!)
she didn't bid on the auction (but in fairness i didn't contact her until an hour before it finished) but has a 100% feedback, i just can't read the comments as they're in german!
just sounds a bit suss, so what is the best form of accepted payment? i'm going to go for bankers draft or international cheque (if there's such a thing)
not going to give out my bank details, but is there a better way of getting the money?

Just ask her to send Euros by registered and insured air post. Or bank transfer with charges to her account. Or a euro cheque which you can clear. Nothing wrong with giving bank details - they are on every cheque you write anyway.
Poor old dad btw....

if i get a cheque made out to me in euros this can be paid in normally in my account? only other time i've recieved money from abroad somewhere along the lines it got changed from euros to sterling
who's poor old dad by the way mate? short of lugging around a bloody great accordian, her dad might be happy with it

Surely you want pounds, not Euros? Foreign currency will give you extra transaction costs to get rid a possble risk of forgery if notes and probably takes longer for you to get your sterling too.
Ask her to transfer English pounds to your account directly. Give her the IBAN, account number and account name. I occasionally transfer squids from Holland to the uk and its not difficult. Once the money hits your account it cannot be reclaimed without your permission.

Western Union is fine if you're the recipient of the cash. It's only a problem if you're the sender !!!
Basically you have to trust the recipient, it's rather like putting cash in the post.
What have you got to lose - she sends a Western Union transfer - once you have cash in your hands then you send the goods.
