Where to go for high value currency exchange?
As title. Where do you go to get a large amount of £ swapped to $? This is a large amount here (well into 5 figures)- dont fancy going into the high street with a suitcase as
a) Special branch may take an interest- thinking I was money laundering (im not )
b) the high streets rates are sh*te
$/£ rate is 1.88 at the moment and predicted to be hitting 2.00 at least soon!

I used to go to Currencies Direct, but I found that the HSBC were offering a Yen rate that was virtually as keen (typically within ¥2; say ¥198.5 when the exchange rate was quoted as ¥200:£1) and they were happy to deal in small amounts, whereas CD were trading in £10,000 blocks. For larger amounts the HSB book a market rate too.....

I've exchanged £ for € quite a few times, the High Street travel agents fell over themselves to offer me a decent rate once they knew I had over £1000, and when I changed over £10000, they were visibly drooling. You just play one off against another.
I've exchanged as much as £40000 in cash, and never been involved with SB, so don't worry.

Easy way:
1. Phone dealer and get rate ask them to book money
2. transfer money to pay dealer
3. Dealer transfers US$ to my dollar account
