Default Plate transfer

i've looked on the dvla website but i can't really find the info i need so i hope some1 on here can help.

I bought a car private last week (well swapped for my old one) - the V5s haven't been sent off yet as the seller wants his private plate on his new car.

Can we change the owners details (names/ addresses, etc) at the same time as applying for the transfer or do the new keeper details have to be changed before the transfer?

Cheers

yes you can- I have done this twice now- sold a car and transferred my plate onto another/onto retention while transferring the v5 into the new owners name when the old v5 is sent off.

I highly recommend you do it at a dvla office in person at the same time..... far too much potential for it to go wrong via post

Leeds DVLA office have stopped doing 'While-You-Wait' cherished transfers etc. All done by post now and takes 7-10 days.

Might be worth checking before you set off!!

Our local DVLA Office will no longer transfer a number while you wait. You have to put the cherished number on a retention certificate for £25 and then when you get the retention certificate back from Swansea after anything up to 6 weeks wait, you can then got to the local DVLA office personally and they will transfer the number onto the other car for £80.00P ! A direct transfer would have to be done via Swansea as well.

What you need is all listed on the form. They change the tax disks to have the new reg no. You will need the registration forms for the cars too.
