Anyone seen the film "Pulse"
It's a great example of how well Japan does "creppy" horror; the atmosphere was outstanding!
Pity about the script (although to be fair it may have lost something in translation)!
Infuriatingly, it was also a very interesting concept, and -at the same time- commentary on the impact of the internet on meaningful human relationships.
BUT it just seemed to dangle the idea in front of you without exploring it fully, or reaching any kind of satisfying conclusion.
It's one of those films that's worth seeing though cause it is genuinely quite disturbing in places and gets you thinking about the time you spend on-line!
Holywood will release a remake soon and completely F**k it up no doubt!!

I always thought Pulse was an 80's film made in America where electricity takes on some seriously nasty qualities and starts attacking people. Didn't realise there was a japanese version, and if it was made in america when i was a kid this could disprove the rule that it is the yanks who always remake films.

The japanese Pulse was originally called Kairo I believe and was put on the shelf for a while. It is a geuinely creppy film and well worth a look.
There is a US remake due out soon, but I doubt it will be as good; the US just doesn't do atmosphere like the Japanese, they trade it for shocks and gore. I would like to be proved wrong though!!

I reviewed the Japanese original when it first came out, but I can't seem to find the link at present... the director, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, is the best of the new-wave Japanese directors IMO. His film CURE is my favourite Japanese film of the 90's, and I say that as a huge fan of Japanese cinema...
