Hope someone can help as the RAC website isn't very helpfull

I'm buying a car this week (private sale) and the owner has all the keys, MOT, etc BUT he did a cherished transfer 2 weeks ago and hasn't got the V5 logbook back yet.
he's put the new reg on the car (naughty) and after checking the RAC site it doesn't show up yet (i know it isn't the most up to date site) - i don't want to pay for a HPI if the reg doesn't come up?

any dealers on here who'd do me a check cheap

ok got my wires crossed - turns out the sellers taking the plate off the car (hence the transfer) - gave me the number which will go on instead and this shows as a different colour/ spec on the RAC site, guess thats because the number was used before?
Can anyone help to check this out please?
