Default in trouible with benifits people, Solicitor?

Hi
I am in trouble with the benefits people. i had too much money in my bank account to claim benefits. i have had one taped interview with a fraud investigator and now he has my statements showing i had over £8000 back in 2004. i think i am definately guilty (it was income based benifit) . Second interview tomorrow. Would you get a solicitor?

They are investigating the period after being made redundant from my first job since being made redundant 2 years earlier. i had this for just for 8 weeks (temp job). i did not have enough National Insurance contributions, though 8 weeks earlier i had enough NI contributions. I had not worked for about 2 years before this 'first job'.

No negative posts please, looking for helpful advice. Been through the most difficult few years in my life, having had a job for 25 years since i left school and could not (depressed at times) get a job and have been through 3 jobs to date. For your interest all less than £8/hour

As i said earlier would you get a solicitor seeing i am guilty? i am going to offer to pay the amount (prob about £900) straight away). Any general advice would also be appreciated.

Thanks

If you believe you are guilty and plan to plead as such (if it goes to court) there's no point in a solicitor, they will just hit you for more money, better to just admit your mistakes, A solicitor will just sit there watching the clock tick in my experience.

I would just have a chat with the citizens advice bureau. They are normally pretty hot on things like benefits and will see if you were at fault/made an error or not.

It would be free and perhaps give you peace of mind.Good luck..
