Blade Runner - Clones or Androids?
Can someone settle a debate? Are the baddies in Blade Runner clones or androids? I think they're andriods but someone at my archery club thinks they are clones. I sent him a link to the IMDb which supports my case, and he sent something saying it's clones. Is there a difinitive source of info to settle this? I know it's based on a book (Do androids dream of electric sleep) but need something refering to the film to be concusive..

They're replicants. They are manufactured human beings, organic entities, but not clones. They are designed artefacts and lack certain human characteristics such as empathy. They also have a built-in short lifespan and no childhood, which a clone would have. In my opinion they are androids, but not of the robotic type.

I know they are termed Replicants, but are they Human (clones) or Machanical (androids) or may be a mix?
Found this form web site. It's the "crawl" from the beging of the film..
Early in the 21st Century, THE TYRELL
CORPORATION advanced Robot evolution
into the NEXUS phase — a being virtually
identical to a human — known as a Replicant.
The NEXUS 6 Replicants were superior
in strength and agility, and at least equal
in intelligence, to the genetic engineers
who created them.
Replicants were used Off-world as
slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and
colonization of other planets.
After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6
combat team in an Off-world colony,
Replicants were declared illegal
on earth — under penalty of death.
Special police squads — BLADE RUNNER
UNITS — had orders to shoot to kill, upon
detection, any trespassing Replicant.
This was not called execution.
It was called retirement.

From the use of the word "Robot" I'm lead to the conculsion that they are machanical in the main and not clones..

True, but not necessarily a clone either, since a clone, buy it's very nature is an exact copy of a human.
So, neither one nor the other, which means we are both right and wrong..

Deckard?
Harrison Ford and Ridley Scott have nothing to do with it. The story wasn't written by them and P.K.D. was perfectly clear about it.
Elvis nicked my shopping trolley the other day, but Bruce Lee picked him off from the grassy knoll.

Was watching a recent inteview with HF & he said that he had insisted (& had it agreed by RS) that at least one of the main cast was human. Slightly criptic but suggests that HF character was human.

i'd suggest they are andoids - they all have incept dates and built in life spans. they're referred to as 'model' versions. rachel asks if deckard can tell the difference between real/fake.
also the pkd book is "do androids dream of electric sheep?".
and deckard is a replicant, it's just he and rachel don't have termination dates.

''I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched sea beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die''.
Something like that iirc?
