Joining the Police force
Been thinking about this for a while and decided to have a go at applying, my eye will no doubt prevent me from joning though.
I came across this question:
Try to recall an occasion when you have challenged someone’s behaviour that was bullying, discriminatory or insensitive. Do not use an example where the other person was simply angry or upset. Their behaviour must have been bullying, discriminatory or insensitive. You will be assessed in this question on how positively you acted, and on how well you understood what had happened.
- Tell us about the situation and about the other person or people involved (120 words)
- What did you say, and what did you do? (160 words)
- Why do you think the other person behaved as they did? (40 words)
- What would have been the consequences if you had not acted as you did? (40 words)
I can honestly say I've never been in a situation like this! I'm struggling to think of anything that I could use as an example. Can anyone think of any similar situation's or anything to give me an idea?

Marc
IMHO the Police are trying to see if YOU have been in this sort of situation and how YOU reacted and how YOU delt with it and how well YOU can recount it.
Blimey Marc you must have been in this situation at some time in your life, what about an agrument between mates or your best friend or such. Have you intervened in a family upset someone getting rowdy on a bus or at work, what about your old place and what went on?
You could 'embroider' it but i would not just tell it like is was but do not stray from the facts or truth of the matter
Needs to be your experiences and your words mate

The incident doesn't have to be a 'big' one as long as your answer is a good one (For example, my Dad is a chauvinist (sp?) git and always makes patronising remarks about women in their presence.....this ticks both the discriminatory AND insensitive boxes! ) There will be hundreds of examples in your life that you could use. Just remember that if you do embelish it a bit don't go overboard. They will ask you questions you haven't thought about and sticking to something that has actually happened will save you tripping up

Thinking about joining myself, went to an open day last week for information but it was limited.
I'm probably going to wait and try and speak to some people to learn of their experiences before applying as the one thing I did learn from the open day is you have to be 100% committed throughout the process.
Have you much info on it or just giving it a try?

The majority of people do not get through the application phase!
Do not miss anything out, make sure everything is spelt correctly and make sure everything is gramatically correct.
Seriously 1 spelling mistake or 1 thing missed out and your application is binned! There are so many applicants, they'll bin applicants for the simplest things.
Cousins wife is in her probation period, and a very close friend is just about to go to police training college. Both were knocked back 1st time due to incomplete applications!
As you'll know the application form is massive!

"bullying, discriminatory or insensitive".
Is this the same 16vmarc that lost his last job as a welder as the foreman gave him the jobs of three higher-qualified welders to do but he couldn't complete them satisfactorily within the time limit? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

Make it up of experiences you have seen in movies, they'll never get the irony and put you through for fear of upsetting anyone!!
Good luck, i'm 5 years down the line and in a specialist post, i can honestly say i love my particular job, no way would i start all over again though!!

Awful for the 1st 18 months.
It's all straight in at the deep end and being very uncomfortable in what you're doing.
Best of luck.

Here's one you could use.
I was driving down a country road in my Scooby when I was stopped for speeding. The PC said to me that there was a speed limit and I was exceeding it. I figured he was just picking on me cos I had a better car than him. I twatted him and told him to go pick on some ****** like they usually do.
He was being like this cos he was a pig.
If I hadn't done this he would continue his persecution of Scooby Drivers.
HTH.

I filled the form in. I remembered a couple of incident's from when I've been in town. I'm not very hopeful of it going any further though! I'm sure I wrote quite well, I'm sure now though that there's spelling mistake's that will get it binned!!!

A mates dad is quite high up in the force and actaully found out that they were turned away because they had too many white people.
If I'm being troubled by someone or my cars being nicked, I dont care what colour their skin is, I just want a policeman to turn up. Its crazy.

I've been in for 2 1/2 years, the proccess took me about 9 months to get in, passing every phase first time so you really have to want to do it to go through it all. The probationary period is hard work, it's a steep learning curve, especially to start with, I love it now i'm though all that though

im 5 years down the line and i wouldnt change what i do for the world, take your time over the application form i few friends of mine have tried recently and they do seem to be very picky.
i cant really give you any words of advice as from the day i filled in my application form to my first day of training it only took me two months! and as far as i know its never that quick (they must have short that week!)
but good luck you wont regret it, it will certainly open your eyes up to the real world

I just found this thread and pi55 my pants, it's so accurate, well most of it!!
If you enjoy pushing a pen most of a shift and having threats made from the bosses for more "Goverment detections" thrown at you then go ahead!!
Get a job as a politician, your come into contact with criminals more often than in the Police.
Degrees don't count for **** as long as you pass the required "tests"
You do have to be good with your spelling when you apply though, after that it's spell check or looped up writing all the way!!
The fitness level is now so low my dead gran could pass it.
You used to have to have a pass rate for most exams of 75%, now it's less than 50%!
After training in a classroom and practical situations you then had 10 weeks with a tutor constable before he made his report on if you were capable of being let out alone. Today you get three 7 day shifts!!
AAHH, i feel so much better for that

If your score is less that required your out mate.
Best thing to do is "guild the lilly" as thay say, just make it as near the truth as you can.
If you say you haven't dealt with that type of situation they usually tell you to go away and get experience of life, whatever thats supposed to mean!!
