Why
No amount of money would get me to join the force and I'm not an arsehole so it rules me out anyway.
This is a stereo typical reply.
If say for instance you were a builder and had a reutation for being a to55er, does that mean all builders are tossers................
I'd never join up simply because I couldn't stand there and defend the rights of half the muppets in this country.
The "muppets" as you call them are defended by criminal solicitors, not the Police, we try and prosecute.
There is no point continuing with this thread as people just get more abusive and stereotypical.
Take care and stay safe

I mean the chavs who want to drink all night then punch each other lights out in the local Weatherspoons. I'd just let them take each others faces off. I'd rather not risk myself for morons which I'm sure you have to do from time to time? It's not an attack on the Police or the job they do. Just saying I couldn't do it because of situations like that.
Depending on of the time of night or day we are just locking the people up who cause innocent members of the community distress and harm.
I wouldn't want my family subjected to it.
Some Froces or Services as they call them now can let members of the public, (You have to say your interested in joining) sign a disclaimer and come out on patrol for say a Friday night, perhaps CoffinDodger could take part??
Anyway thats enough, time to move on.

What I find frustrating is that I have skills that are directly transferable into a CTU or similar, yet, if I joined, I'd have to go through god-knows how many years pounding the beat losing those exact same skills.
Puts me off applying a little.

You only have to do (in reality) about a year on response team before being allowed to go into other areas as long as you are able to prove yourself.
I think I have 'pounded the beat' about 5 times in 3yrs! It's all in cars if you work in a large town/city. The walkers are now PCSOs or Safer Neighbourhood people who want to walk around estates.

I'm amazed nobody has mentioned what a stupid politically correct question that is. Who gives a toss how you've reacted when someone has been bullied. All you do in the job is sit in your patrol car nicking ppl for brake lights or 33mph in a 30.

Indeed.
I'm sick of hitting the aged and disabled with tickets for no seatbelt. It stunts my consumption of doughnuts.
You have to book everyone, it's policy in most Forces to "reduce road deaths" so they say. And before you ask, i researched this for one particular motorist, all money raised from tickets for road safety should go back into road safety, but they go to central goverment to spend as they will!!!!!

Although some coppers ARE decent people, the job does seem to attract a disproportionate amount of megalomaniac arseholes
Coppers about 10% decent the rest . If your gonna get any respect from the law abiding public then get off your ars*s and fight some real crime instead of sitting in your T5's playing 'snooker' with the commuter. Red car next is it?

There are ar5eholes in all jobs, no matter what you do for a living.
What the general public don't like is being given a bolluxxing for breaking the law, sometimes a t1t copper does get off on a minor breach, granted.
Just remember, Behaviour breeds Behaviour.

Motorists get hit from every angle, paying for this, that and the other. And all over the odds. Everyone breaks the law with driving - many people several times a day without possibly realising it.
I treat people the way I would like to be treated if I committed a minor naughty when driving. Words of advice usually suffice unless the driver's been >various things I won't go into< and needs to be given a ticket or an appearance in front of a magistrate.

You'd spend half your life writing out tickets and hitting generally decent people though......
You can only give out 3 points on a ticket, unless it's for no insurance which can carry an instant £200 fine and 6 points.

I support the Police as you all well know .....
But, I have an issue with them sitting at the top of a road in our area (very wide and very straight) at 8am in the morning catching mums and dads taking their kids to school and then onto work at 36MPH .....
THEN, at 12 midnight on a Friday night ON THE SAME ROAD chavs and scum scream their cars up and down for an hour ....... where are they then?????
Tucked up in bed having caught 20 mums and dads the morning before and feeling rather pleased with themselves
Nah, when there's a tough job to do they are noticable by their abscense in most cases these days ...... money for old rope job IMO
And, as such, I would recommend it to every kid leaving school!!

Pete,
The speed thing has no relation to the rest of your gripes.
Traffic is a seperate thing from your local team that respond to burglaries etc.
Traffic set up operations at their leisure - uniform repsonse don't have the resources to do anything other than to repsond to 999 stuff.
It's a massive gripe in every service/force as the vital resource that comes to you on a 999 call is probably the worst funded area of your local police team.

Traffic cops are as they sound, dedicated to traffic. The reason you don't see PC plod late in the evening where he may have been in the morning is because he is usually dealing with violent matters in more often than not central areas of towns.
