Quite tempted to buy one but dont know much about them and dont fancy asking some spotty oink in halfords for a demo.

Have briefly seen a TomTom 300 in action and was quite impressed. Tom Tom One is the new one and only £235. However can anyone tell me the following:

a) Do you have to pay a subscription charge to use it or is it pay upfront and thats it?

b) How often do you have to update maps realistically and how easy it (assume mem card reader and download from net but you know what they say about assumption)? Also is there a charge associated?

c) Do Tom Tom products offer speed camera locations (I know its not a detector) or can I download this info? Or am I better off looking at something else for this purpose?

Cheers,
Simon.

Have a look here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

I have a tomtom300 for the g/f. It's a one off payment with everything included. But on the pocket gps world website above you can load on speed cameras and the like for 2 quid per download. I havent looked into the map updating thing yet, but i'd imagine you can get this done free on the Tomtom website.

Best have a long look around that site, it's very specific for the info you need.

Tomtom do offer speed camera downloads but they are quite expensive compared to the pocketgps website.

Hubby has Tom Tom 300 and is well impressed with it.
Answers:
a) No subscription charges. Switch on and go
b) Maps are up to date, and he wouldn't have thought, bearing in mind the crap road building policy at the mo', that new maps are a significant issue. Doesn't know if there is a charge involved, probably will be, but may be discounted for owners.
c) His came bundled with speed camera subscription for 1 year and is excellent.
Highly recommended
