Question 1 Day free in Washington DC

Where should I go?

Smithsonian Museum?
The Whitehouse?

Anywhere else worth seeing?

Start at the US Supreme Court, then walk past the Capitol and down The Mall, past all the museums (as well as the Smithsonian, the National Air and Space Museum is also popular), then onto the Jefferson Memorial (very peaceful).

Carry on around the Tidal Basin, past the Roosevelt Memorial and up to the Lincoln Memorial. Walk past the reflecting pool up towards the WWII memorial and the Washington Monument. Then head North up 17th Street towards the Whitehouse, taking in both front and rear views.

Stop for a drink at the Hay-Adams Off The Record bar (you'll need one by now!), before jumping on the Metro at Farragut West. Three stops later you will be at Arlington Cemetery, a must see. Hope this helps

As someone who isn't really that interested in planes or spacecraft I was blown away by the Air and Space Museum. Definately worth a visit.
