Default Postage Costs

i've just bought a couple of new R/C cars off Ebay which were a bargain, the seller is based in Hong Kong and even though i read his postage costs i'm still a bit shocked
Postage airmail 1-2 weeks is £52 (for both cars)
Postage surface mail takes 6-10 weeks??????????? this is cheaper at £30.90 for both

how can postage take 6-10 weeks? will the seller deliver it on his rickshaw?

is it worth paying extra for airmail so the packages don't get damaged in the 6-10 weeks?
When i worked at UPS packages worldwide would take 3-4 days max (some drivers didn't like going to certain addresses and would leave the packages on the van or back at the depot - these prats made bonuses as well )

Surface=ship
far higher risk of it going missing via surface mail in my experience. It does also take bloody ages.

Given the weight of RC cars and the size of packaging, £52 for two of them via airmail isnt too bad.

Bear in mind that he has also quoted the maximum times- will almost certainly arrive sooner than those quoted.
