Just been given an Ipod Nano...
...off my missus, its my birthday today
Unfortunately not got a figgin clue how to download music onto it
Any advice or can anyone point me in the direction of previous threads on here that may help. Have had a search but shedloads come up.
Couple of questions anyway,
1. Do I need a CD re-writer to copy from a cd to the ipod?
2. Where is best to get free tunes from, *think* I have a linewire account, they anygood?
cheers

To get mp3 off a CD you need a ripper. I use CDEx, but I think iTunes will do it. You can load mp3 with different tools, but iTunes seems to be the weapon of choice fo iPOD users.
You can get MP3 from Limewire and other P2P but it's more than likely illegal. With iTunes you can buy legal MP3 to load.

I've got a Nano and use iTunes for ripping from my CDs. It's sooo simple to use with an iPod. Buying music from iTunes is really easy too.
I only buy the legal stuff so wouldn't know about anything else

no you dont need a cd rewriter, any old cd rom drive will do. start up itunes and put cd in then hit import in top corner.
you can download mp3s off limewire and add them to your itunes folder then sync it with your ipod no problems.

CD burner not needed. iTunes will rip the music cd's for you, and allow you to put the music onthe iPod.
Limewire/Bitorrent will allow you to obtain both legal (if the artist has allowed it to be put on P2P networks) and illegal music, in varying degrees of quality.
iTunes music store is a place to legally obtain music of good quality. Allofmp3.com is another download site, but it's legallity is questionable, but I've used it for quite a while and like it.

I was intending to start an ipod nano thread but this one will do
My question is this: I have gathered enough frequent player points (a reward scheme) playing poker that I can now get an ipod nano 4GB for nowt. I'm tempted to get it before I go on Holiday to Gran Canaria in 3 weeks time. However, do they come with chargers or do they charge when connected to the computer. Obviously to be worthwhile on my holidays I'd need some form of external mains charger that I could fit an adaptor plug too.

No they don't come with chargers, they will however charge via the USB 2.0 cable which is supplied, but your PC needs to be USB 2.0. You can purchase separarte charger if you don't have USB 2.0 on your computer, or if you want/need an external charger.

How much, from where? Being an apple accessory I'm guessing £99.99 or something similarly stupid I don't care how it looks as long as it charges I'm 90% sure I have USB 2.0 so charging at home will be fine but I'd need to be able to charge it when abroad as I'm guessing one charge would not last 2 weeks.

They're about £19 from Apple, or about £3 on fleabay for a 3rd party clone.

Bought a Ipod for my daughter for Crimbo! Been thinking of "Borrowing" it as she doesn't seem to use it that much. You can import all the music from your computer into Itunes and then put on Ipod. Bit unsure why people buy music from Itunes though as for the money they charge I reckon your better of buying the CD then you have it should your computer/Ipod crash!
BTW Happy Birthday! How old?

Quality isn't that brilliant on iTunes - it is only 128bit. If you use decent headphones (and not the crappy standard Apple ones), you'll notice the difference. I tend to buy CDs and encode them at 256bit.
