Taxing the car... WTF?
How difficult is it to tax a car?
Noticed the tax disk on my car has expired (31/03/2006) fair enough, but I thought it was odd that I hadn't received a reminder.
Log on to the DVLA website to try and order the tax disk, but it comes back with an error, even though I have a new style V5 and new style MOT!
I spend 20 minutes on the Royal Mail website trying to find a post office close to work that will sell me a tax disk, as I got caught out on my other car! Website craps out, time and time again, so I give up.
I send my wife down to the Post Office today, and the person serving her tells her that the car is taxed and can't tell her when it is taxed until. They then ask why she hasn't had the reminder (You're the Royal Mail, can you explain why post doesn't reach it's destination???!!! )
So what's gone wrong? I've got a tax disk that has expired, but I can't renew it as the system says it's ok. What happens if I can stopped or a ticket for not having road tax??
I guess the next port of call will be the DVLA.

Just checked online with the DVLA, and apparently the car is not liable for tax until April 2007
I know I didn't pay online this time, so the only way this could have happened is if they kept the details from last year.
I've tried calling the DVLA, but apprently "all 220 lines are busy" right now!

I didn't get a reminder for mine either. DVLA - useless *******. Also over the w/e I received a V5 to my house for a person that doesn't live there for a car that I've never heard of. Doubt the DVLA will recompense my time for writing to them to correct their error...
