Default Best portable way to check for Forged notes?

Hi,

Need a way to check for forged bank notes in afew weeks time. Must be portable. Are the UV lights any good? Can you get battery versions? Are the marker pens a good check, or should we use both? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

This may sound like a strange question:

Why do you think you need to check them? Are the transactions you are going to be for large amounts of cash (£250+) Are you expecting to be busy?

Look and feel. Forged notes are always relatively easy to spot. Even excellent forgeries cant get past anything more than a casual inspection if you know what youre looking for (and theyre usually ****e!).

1. The feel of the paper; bank notes have a very high rag content, nothing else feels like them

2. The ink will be raised, look particularly at the 'Banf of England' script.

3. Over-print on the foil security features. Added after on a forgery itll be over-printed on a genuine bank note

4. The security strip; if youre still unsure then a small rip will satisfy your paranoia!

Hope that this helps

Got a stall at a craft fair, and while I don't expect there to be any dodgy people about (it's a class event ), I want to see if there's a quick and discreet way to check any notes we receive.

We hope to be very busy

Simon, Thanks for the tips. Will come in handy..

IF you expect to be busy, then dont bother checking them.

I do shows every year, my busiest being at the NEC, while you are faffing around trying to check notes you will lose customers.

Lost customers would cost me more than any amount of forged money I would of taken. If you do end up with a dodgy note, do what I did and accidently use it to pay any parking fines at your local council office

I have all the pens, UV lights and machines they are fine for checking it before you bank it but not when you are busy!
