Yve

try Norwich Union - they are doing half price contents insurance for 2 years if you have both buildings and contents insurance with them. I saved over £80 this year by switching to them. Not a bad poicy either, with lots of additional options if you want them.

Try L&G - they have cut rates considerably to take on the supermarkets

Hi Yve,

I use Frizzell (Liverpool Victoria Group). £232 pa which includes £500k buildings and £75k contents and usual other stuff. 4 bed detached in reasonable postcode. They were miles cheaper than anyone else when I shopped around last week. They were also about £1000 cheaper for getting kids as named drivers on cars of mine which they use.

Note Barclays have a special offer and will match your current quote or give you £50 off if you haven't had a claim for 2 years.

Chill out, shop around (try www.moneysupermarket.com) and then take great delight in telling them to shove their business where the sun doesn't shine once you've found a cheaper quote.

Cheers

Well I did pretty well......... went to Confused.com and have now signed up with , wait for it..................

ASDA !! Instead of £333.00 with Direct line I have paid £157.00 for exactly the same cover.

And yes, it gave me great satisfaction to tell D L where to shove their renewal.

Also, get a second quote from your existing insurers. My last renewal was over 50% more than the quote I got or the same policy as a new customer on-line. When I phoned them up and asked them to explain, they pointed out it wasn't identical cover - my renewal had an excess of £50, the on-line quote had £55 You can see how that £5 less excess makes the difference between £320 and £200!

- Give the ******* one chance only to give you their best price. The only way to change the practice of ripping off your current customers is to walk away from them when they try it !

Or sod such principles, and go with whichever company gives you the best price. Their second quote was significantly cheaper than the best from anywhere else - why would I want to pay £40 extra walking away to "teach the ******* a lesson"?

Who else did you get to quote. You simply said that you got some money off their rip off renewal by telling them if you were a new customer of theirs they wouldn't have ripped you off so much .

The clue is in the first word of my first post :- "Also". Couldn't name everyone else I got to quote, but it was a decent number of the above.

My missus happened to mention a slight crack on the front of the house to our insurers, 400 quid to fix but classed as subsidence and it doubled, it was due to the tree draining all the water out of the ground.

Give esure a go - cant remember how much I pay but was def the cheapest two years on the trot and when I did claim (the builders dropped my washing machine) they coughed up within a week and my premium went up £18 quid - bargain for a new machine oh and you can find out in advance how much they will increase your premium for each claim - something I've never come across before...
