Default TV in a Car

Should you have a TV licence when you have a TV built into the car?

Silly question but it's something i just thought of

I Guess the answer's no, what's the difference?

Got a TV that's been used and no TV licence for it.

It's covered by your home licence.

My guess is that the OP has no TV licence.

If he has - he's wasting our time

Not sure but it is probably covered by your home license.

I thought if a tv was powered by batteries you didn't need one.

i looked at this a while back (think there was a thread on here asking the same question and i was curious). from memory, it's not clearly defined on the tv licensing web site under the faq section, but the "caravan" section would probably apply - ie covered by your home licence. strictly speaking i don't think you can use the home and the car tv at the same time if they're used under the same licence, but i expect that would be very hard to apply in practice

Nearly. If it's powered by batteries (or a portable power source like a car), it's covered under your home license. If you need to plug it into the mains, it would fall under the license of wherever you are.

Fantastic! ! !

So in my other houses i could set the TVs up to batteries on a constant charger off the mains.

Or wire them to a wind propelled dynamo.

All jokes a side, i think you've answered my question, you top banana you! !

and there's me thinking i was going to get slated for asking.

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who doesn't ask remains a fool forever

http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/secondhome.jsp

If you watch or record TV programmes in a second home which is a touring caravan or vehicle, or a boat, you do not need a separate TV Licence; you will be covered by the TV Licence for your main residence
