Email Server Programs
#1
Looking for a cheapy/freeware/shareware email server program...
Needs to be able to cope with smtp & pop & preferably be able to run as a service. Currently using Exchange but thats a bit overkill for home Needs to be able to deal with multiple accounts as well. Upto 5-user but untold mailboxes. Scheduling & on-demand send/receive.
I know of vPop & Windis - any others or recommendations?

I use VPOP3, but AFAIK David Harris's Mercury Mail Transport is free. I use the Pegasus Mail client that he also wrote. See http://www.pmail.gen.nz/

Mdeamon (sp?) and winroute are two that I have used.
Winroute is brilliant but relatively expensive www.winroute.com
Mdeamon is good apparently but I haven't used it..

MDaemon was excellent, but now its even better with the free anti-virus plug-in that scans all incoming mail.
www.mdaemon.com
I've been using it for years without any problems.

Hiya M8.
Merak mailserver http://www.icewarp.com is pretty good but costs $300.
Argo http://www.argosoft.com is a bit more basic, but is cheaper ($88)
Both can be used first before deciding.
The Argo one works, but I didn't fancy running loads of domains/users on it as I didn't get the 24/7 feeling about it.
Been running Merak on a machine in telehouse for two months now without (touch wood) any problems.... (stupid statement to make!)
