Is it possible to cycle from JOHN O'GROATS to LAND'S END in 9 days!
A mate of mine is cycling from JOHN O'GROATS to LAND'S END (990miles) in 9 days (May 26th - June 3rd) !!!! to raise money for the Royal Marsden Hospital Charity (Cancer)
http://www.teampecs.co.uk - his name is Sam Czerpak
If you feel the teams effort is worth a donation please feel free to make a contribution through the website (If you put Scooby along with a message in the comments field he'll know it it from here )
After I've been paid on the 28th I'm going to make a donation

LOL
I wouldn't even like to do London to Brighton, let alone the length of Britain! You guys make it sound like a walk in the park.

Simple isn't the first word that springs to mind, that's an average of 100 miles a day, which is a hell of a lot. I did the C2C last year which was 160 miles in 3 days and that was pretty tough.

10 mph is quite a leisurely plod on a cycle, but taking in to account hills, of which I understand there are a couple of north of the border , it isn't unrealistic for a reasonably inexperienced rider. It will be long days and no doubt a sore *** at the end of it, but good for them.

Cycling up Broch (sp) summit south of inverness on towards Aviemore (if they go that way) will make their heart explode into tiny fragments, but if they survive that, the ride down the other side will be great fun!!
I plod an avearage speed on my MTB of 15mph (with 5lb of kit in my backpack), so a racer with minimal kit at ~20+ for 8 hours a day... Err 160 a day (yikes) makes it more than possible...
But fair play its a tough go that... Good luck to him!!

I did a couple of days of 120miles when 15, and that was fully laden with panniers front and rear. If he's fit and has a support vehicle/stays in B&B, shouldn't be too difficult. Sounds scarey to couch potatoes though

Anyone know what the unofficial record is for doing J'OG to Lands End in a car or on a bike?
I know back in the late 70s, journalist Dave Minton did it in 16 hours 45 mins total time (59mph average speed ), including stops etc, without using ANY motorways, on a Laverda SF750 ... anyone know of a faster time?

I agree running is harder than cycling, but we trained for about 3 months last year for the C2C and the difference from the first cycle ride to the last was incredible. Plus it's not just fitness, my knees were giving me serious pain after 3 days in the saddle, and if you did 100 miles without practice, your **** would refuse to get on the bike for day 2!

My girlfriend was the only girlie of the group with a bunch of macho blokes that did it in 12 days five years ago
She's also done the C2C three times now.
No cycling at the mo though due to ruptured knee ligaments

April 2000 – Record Attempt Cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats and Back, UK (1700 miles) Managed to break the record by taking 6 days 20 hours to cycle there and back. During the last night was so tired that I fell asleep whilst cycling.
