Alcohol consumption...How much do you drink?
Reading an article yesterday about how much more people are drinking. Was tucking into a bottle of wine at the time & was amazed to see it contained 10 units, thought I'd tot up how much i'd drank last week.
Between 75-85 units
and it wasn't a particularly heavy week
4.5 bottles of wine, 15-20 pints and the odd whiskey, not unresonable really but amazing how it all adds up.
iirc a male should have no more than 20 something.
Think i'm going to lay off it a bit, bit of a worry what its doing to my body

Wine is deceptive. Most people equate 1 bottle as 6 glasses, with a glass being 1 unit.
However, this only applies to wines which are around 9% abv. If you look at the back of most red wines now, they are 13-14.5%! You'll struggle to find 9% wine these days (German white, maybe).
This equates to more like 9-10 units per bottle.

erm weekly intake any alcohol nil
i do drink ,but not that often, a bottle of bailys may take anything between 1 month to 1 year, likewise a litre of bacardi
i have done a bottle of wine over a weekend, but thats a rare occurance

Anyone regularly drinking 80 units a week will be doing themselves major damage. Talking about this with a mate at the weekend, and apparently the liver doesn't give any advance warning that it is being damaged until the damage is irreversible. So by the time you have any symptoms you're f*cked!

after i split up with my ex, i went on a bit of a bender for a whole year.
although only really 'drunk' at the weekends (friday, saturday and sunday night), during the week i'd have 2 stellas at lunch, a pint can on the train home and prolly 4 pints in the evening.
if that's 7 a day (stella is 3 units a pint), that was at least 150 units a week.
i think i was a little depressed at the time.
don't drink very much at all now, but i probably shortened my life that year.
the main reason i cut down was that i couldn't remember the last day i didn't have alcohol. it really was 6+ months prior to thinking about it :|
genuinely happy now. quit smoking and prolly don't reach 10 units a week now
remember a litre of abv is that many units.
1 litre of 13% wine is 13 units. a 750ml bottle would then be 9.75
1 litre of 40% spirit is 40 units. 25ml shot is 1 unit.
i really read up on alcohol. it's not nice.

It appalls me to recall how much I'd drink when I was running my own biz. And the fact that I thought it was "normal".(Bottle - 1 1/2 bottles of red per night.) Nowadays I'll have one glass of wine with my evening meal about 5 times a week. Truth be told, I can't manage much more than 3 glasses of red without feeling decidedly ill. Probably a good built in warning device.

I average nil per week
I stopped boozing a few years ago because my hangovers had got so bad that it just didn't seem worth it any more. I guess it was my body's way of telling me to pack it in as I used to drink way too much.

I drink bugger all these days - probably 3pints per week on average.
Maybe 1 pint in the week when I go to the pub driving, 2-3 over the weekend if I go out to the pub. Even on a night out into town these days I only get through about 6pints and a few shots or bottles and thats enough
Pretty poor really, I'll have to increase my drinking

Bloody hell, there's some boozers on Snet!!
I used to drink a lot at uni and in my younger days, but i'm not that arsed about it now - rarely get hangovers when I do drink, but when I do have one I hate it.
I only drink Friday/Saturday now really, Friday usually 3-4 bacardis/whisky, maybe 2 bottles of Leffe. Saturday maybe half a bottle of wine and a pint.
I'm boring these days

Usually no more than a "box" of beer a week, which will be Kronenborg, Stella, Bud etc. What ever is on offer at the supermarket that week.
Plus a bottle of red plonk. So 20 bottles of beer, plus 1 bottle of red per week.
