Any gardeners? part deux..
My sister in law lives in Bristol, and has a corner of her back garden which needs some TLC.
She isn't into gardening, so something low maintenance, low cost, is needed plus it has to be child friendlyish...
We thought a rockery; however the patch of land is low, and is sloping away from the lawn to the fence - what would be the best way of building up a rockery on it?
Someone has suggested laying rubble as a base, and then building up from there with soil and rocks... is this feasible or does anyone have any other suggestions?
And what Alpine plants are best? - as it is going to be a main focal point, some color is needed!!
Where is the cheapest place to buy rocks? It's not a huge area, but it will need a few good size ones to set it off, IMO...
TIA.

Alpine plants don't need rocks, only "set dressing" needs big rocks. They need well-drained compost (loads of sand and grit) and a southish facing position. Cold doesn't bother them, just shade and poor drainage. If they get too hot in summer they will need watering, though.
