not cheap mate

I did 5 days lessons at around 5 hours a day, that came to around £900. the test equivalates (sp) to around £250 a pop, £85 for the test and the rest in lessons/fuel.

its a great feeling passing, I cannot describe it

Not sure about jobs in Derbyshire, there is Heanor Heavy Haulage but you'd need C+E and some experience for them. If you don't mind travelling there's ETS in Loughborough, but the boss Phil Elliott is not the best to work for. Otherwise there is Widdowsons in Leicester if you want to work for a largish firm. The other alternatives include finding a small firm, maybe S&J in Melton and do their local pickups for European groupage.

Depends what you mean by money, but you will in general get more for C+E than C (you need a higher level of training for a start). Doing continental work usually pays more than UK and if you want silly money, do Iraq by road and such.

It's just the classification system used on licenses these days. C is heavy goods vehicle over 7.5 Tonnes, C+E is with trailer - so artic basically.

A = Motor cycle
B = Car
C = HGV
D = PSV

You can obviously then get the +E on them as well

It depends on the type of work you do. You can drive 9 hours a day (it's a bit more complex than that with tachos but that'll do as a rough guide), if you do UK work, then it's probably no worse than any other job, if you're doing loads out to Iraq, then you're going to be away for 2-3 months at a time, but you'll probably earn £1,000 per week net or more.

I have a C+E license but I don't drive for a living, I used to work for a haulage firm in the office and was a DROPS operator in the RLC TA.

i would never EVER work in Iraq... sod that, not for ten times the money.
The risk of getting my head chopped off with a pen knife kind of out weighs the benefits the money brings me thinks...
