I know before you say it - I'm a muppet.

My laptop has died and I have not completed a back up since the beginning of last week so there is quite a lot of info that I don't want to lose.

It is a sony FX105K and it has stopped booting. It sounds like the h/disc attempts to spin then stops and does nothing further.

It's still under warrenty from Sony but they have said that I may lose the data if they have to perform a recovery. They have suggested that I give it to a third party to recover the data before sending it back to them.

I had asked Sony to take the PC back and contact me once they had confirmed whether or not the data was lost. They said that they cannot contact me until the fault has been cleared by which time my data will be long gone......thanks Sony

Does anyone know where I can get this done.

Power Quest have a natty recovery tool. If your disc is spinning at all it will work. Recently worked on one with a controller failure for me. Didn't even realise that this was possible. If the motor on the HDD is foobared ontrack are the chaps to talk to
