There's a cool Sealife place there, with some really cute seals.

I love visiting the area, town centre can be a bit chavvy in the summertime.

Traffic is a PITA in the summer.

Don't miss "The Sailors" on the way to Lulworth Cove for a good meal and real ale

I live about 18 miles from weymouth, i go there a couple of times each year, i (personally) would not want to live there, too much of a holiday place for my liking, Why Weymouth...... try looking at the surrounding area, there's lots of 'nice' Dorset around and abouts.......

I have seen a couple of propertys ripe for development, and what with the water olympics being held there, there will be a lot of work (i'm a carpenter) and i really am getting out of brum.....it's a labour run dump!! Plus i looked at a couple of propertys with huge prospects in newquay and that place just looks really tired now.

There's certainly plenty of work for tradesmen around these parts..... are you self employed or do you work for someone else at the moment?? there's a huge contract on Portland going.... how's about 100 mill.........!!! Thats for a shed load of refurb work, and apparently 140 new houses...... and that is just for the olympics.....joy!

What beats me though, is that there will still only be one way into and out of Portland...... single carriageway at that!!!

If you intend working there webby, most jobs are low paid...unless you work outside of course.
Or you are self employed... plumber etc

As said the traffic in summer is a real PITA

There are loads of bars ( less than there used to be) on average quiet in winter, busy to heaving in summer.
As Ron said I think the Olympic sailing will be there in 2012 (not sure on this), so I will be a nitemare then.

I live in Weymouth and have done since I was 10 yrs old so I can give you any info you want.

1) It is not a s*ithole, in fact it is a very nice place to live

2) The place is like a different town in the summer, very busy and we have our fair share of k*obheads down on holiday but what holiday town does not

3) areas to avoid are Littlemoor, Broadwey (same place different name ), and the Park district.
Nice places are Preston (£), Chickerell, and Upwey

4) House prices are fairly high, an average 2 bed terraced house will cost anything between £145000-£180000 depending on area etc

5) As a carpenter I should'nt think you would have any problem finding work but its not as busy as Brum (my family is originally from Litchfield) and everything moves much slower

6) The town has hundreds of pubs in a small area so the nightlife is good if thats what you are into

7) Traffic is a nightmare but this is being addressed (new link road open and more planned) dont expect to get through the town quickly in the summer though

I cant think of anything else, feel free to ask if theres anything else you want to know

I am a carpenter and have worked on all the big stadium jobs in this country over the last ten years, and with the olympics coming there it is ideal for me, plus if need be i can commute.

The phone number of a couple of reasonably priced hotels or b&b would be good, as i am coming down to view a few propertys on the 18 of march.

http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/...?hotelId=24010

Of course there are hundreds of hotels/B&B's but the hotels are expensive and I have never set foot in any B&B...sorry

The travel inn is next to Lodmoor country park and opposite preston beach, there is a sea life centre next door to the travel inn as well as go karts/slides etc (good if you have kids).

The pub/resturant next to the travel inn is called 'the Lodmoor' and I think it is a brewsters foodwise, it is quiet and friendly and has a charlie chalks kids play area.

My next recommendation is actually my local ,

http://www.theluggerinn.co.uk/topframe.htm

great food, great pub and very nice hotel/inn.
It is out of town so will give you a better idea of what Weymouth is actually like to live in.

Hope that helps
Craig
