Thumbs up MFI on the ropes!!

And about bloody time too!!!

Shoddy goods, crap service, incomplete parts, uninterested staff ....

It's been like it for 20 years - people just don't think of MFI if they want some quality furniture .....

Loads that can do their jobs perfectly well, will still stand to lose their jobs out of the 1500. I doubt all of the 1500 made the decision to sell crap quality furniture in the first place.

My mate works for MFI kitchens and he's a good salesman (well, he must be as he manages to sell some of their crap!)

The sentiment behind the pre-edit quote still stands although the actual text I deemed perhaps a bit harsh for even you

Ikea.John Lewis, all the smaller independent stores products are made of the same materials and construction as MFI use.I.E chipboard and screws!

The weak link in the product is the person constructing it!

Unless you go for a solid wood, bespoke furniture, which not many of us can, your buying the same quality of product as MFI's was.

IKEA have made it to watchdog for the same reasons as MFI in the past, the fact is MFI are going **** up because of their home delivery service, you used to be able to pick it up from the store which the builders merchants and most people wanted, then they changed to home delivery and it was a 2-4 week wait...or longer....but by then they had already gained their "reputation" and IKEA become some kind of cult place to visit and buy.

Sad day for a lot of people I used to work with

Bry - ex MFI of 15 years......

If he is knowingly selling crap, then sadly - he must know that they cannot keep on selling???

It will come as no surprise to him and he will have a fall back plan ........ so, I wish him all the best with his redundancy package!

I agree ........

He's not really a good mate, so not too upset for him

Common sense should of told him to get a better job selling better quality stuff anyway

Hell of a lot of firms strugling at the moment.

The consumer spending boom (fuelled by the house price boom) is coming to an end now and as a result a lot of companies will be going under. Even B&Q are struggling apparently!

I would be MFI is gone by next year.

B&Q have been struggling for a good few months. Again, fewer people buying property to do up and most people have also realised that B&Q are over priced and poor quality.

Olly,

Bad experience with TomTom, the unit's backlight failed (after only 6 months) so we backed it up and tried to return the unit to them only to find their website instructions assumed you worked in a mailroom. Dixons who we bough the uint from were superb and returned the unit on our behalf. Unit comes back "repaired" after 3 weeks and we are assured it is the repaired unit. Turns out to be a replacement unit and when we reinstall from the backup the whole unit fails due to the backup being associated with the original unit's processor ID Dixons return the unit again for us and after more than a month of nothing happening and TomTom ignoring us Dixons give us a new unit under the Terms of TomTom's contract. Finally manage to get through to TomTom to transfer the scamera subscription and have a moan at them about their general crapness and are told they are very sorry, would we like some free voices? No, we want recompense for the 2 months of scamera subscription that we've paid for and not been able to use to which they say they can't do.... 3 days later apparently they can do and we get a couple of free months scamera subscription.

An unhelpful website, unhelpful staff and an all-round crap experience.

Sounds like you were lucky fella!

Agree with Bry on this. If you want cheap furniture, you want it immediatley, not a 4 week wait. Why would you bother waiting a month for a £100 desk, when you can have immediate delivery from Ikea/B&Q etc?

They made a serious error when they closed the store warehouses.

MFI RIP

Guess so. My GPS unit failed. Went to the website, got reference, posted it in a Jiffy bag to Holland, a few days later, new GPS unit arrived on my doorstep.

I had an even stranger experience with MFI. At the time of the warehouse closedown phase, i wanted to buy a mirror. This meant i had to go to the warehouse to arrange what i thought was collection. Unbelievably, they even had the mirror IN the warehouse at the time, but "couldn't" give me one there and then due to their new delivery procedures. I never went back again.

We bought our kitchen from MFI - I can't honestly fault the product itself as it was one of their more expensive ranges (solid wood doors etc) which we've been very happy with plus we got a cracking deal on quality appliances, Smeg range, Bosch dishwasher / washing machine etc.

What really let them down though was the customer service. Not all the bits turned up when they were supposed to, the monkeys they subcontracted to fit it were useless and only interested in getting it installed as quick as possible, plus getting them to sort out any niggles was a nightmare.

I would never use them again or recommend them on that basis alone..

Furniture group MFI has unveiled a major restructuring plan aimed at reviving its fortunes which could see up to 1,500 jobs being shed.

The firm is closing 11 stores, cutting back on manufacturing and reducing the range of goods it sells to focus on fewer, more expensive products.

They obviously heeded Mr Lewis as they are going upmarket

Our kitchen is mfi, cant fault it, they / we palnned it instore paid for what we wanted, and it was delivered.

from the whole kitchen, only one set of handles was missing, and they sent us a whole new set for all the kitchen

i bought a hi fi stand from them back in the 80,s it came with 4 shelves, but i knew i needed more,

When i collected it from the back of the shop (those were the days) i said to the guy i would need some more shelves how do i order more.

"Missing shelves Sir", he said with a wink and filed out a form, 7 days later a new set of 4 shelves FOC

agreed when they dropped the instore pick up aspect, it went to rat s*it
