Earnings from web site?
#1
I've recently started to get some (small) earnings from my website this year, so I'm assuming I will need to declare them on my tax return when I get it. This isn't my full time job!!
If the earnings are made and paid in the US as US $ do I still need to declare them?
Also if i buy things like web design software, can I offset that against the earnings?
Is there any web sites that I can read up about this?
cheers,
greg

Greg,
your best (safest) bet is to ask the tax man - be honest and you won't get into trouble.
More importantly, you may wish to contact your, er, employer, as i seem to recall that you must declare any "Outside Interests" (see page three of your Contract of Employment)!

*lol* @ DasV. I made some cash from doing a website and updates to it, did the invoices in my girlfriends name, she wasn't working so used her tax allowance. Might be worth thinking about

Wow, its nice to know somebody is making some cash!
Seriously though, I do earn part of my living from the internetty - nice database-driven websites with Janet & John update facilities for retard customers win the day for me.
I was thinking of getting naked and doing a photo shoot - something tasteful with flowers. I'm sure that would make a mint.

Yes - sadly! However, the revenue may fail to believe that anyone makes a profit from the net.
Yes - it is irrelevant where the earnings are earnt, and in what currency they are received in.
Yes - and you can write down the cost of your PC etc.
