Scotland: Discharge of mortgage fees
We have paid our lender their fees for discharging the mortgage, but because we are in Scotland, not England, they cannot do a DS1 and there is a quote from my solicitor of £120+VAT for fees for preparation of discharge and £99 for dues registering discharge, total of £240. This seems expensive for something that would all be done by the lender if the property was in England.
Suggestions apart from getting another quote? The title deeds are presently with this solicitor whilst they wait for us to pay based on their hefty quote which greeted me on return from holiday. This solicitor was rather expensive for a simple remortgage job five years or so ago, fees ended up being about 0.8% of the mortgage.
