Selling cars & not getting ripped off?
As above really, I am in the process of selling my car privately and want to make sure I cover myself adequately against low life scum!
What is the best way to accept payment without getting ripped off by fake bankers drafts etc?
Also, anything else to be aware of??
Thanks in advance,
Mark.

Telephone bank transfer has to be the safest I think. The problem is its catch 22. The buyer doesnt want to give you the money till the keys are in his hand and you dont want to hand the keys over till you have the money.
Sold mine a couple of weeks ago and asked the buyer to come to the bank with me to deposit the bankers draft. He agreed and all went fine.

Yep, take the person into the bank with you to do the transfer and get confirmation the money has reached your account, otherwise check cash carefully (ammount and whether legit), perhaps borrow a cash checking uv thing.

Yep, only way to be sure is to do any of the methods of payment directly to bank in presence of buyer. And keep a pick axe handle just inside the front door, to be sure!!
