dysom or vax are pretty good models. A couple of my friends have them and they seem pretty good cleaners.

Hello
We just bought a Dyson DC14 from Tesco's and it appears to be good:

for that kind of money-and i'd want a car for that
i'd be looking at industrial level cleaners-last much longer and work as well if not better than most of the fashion items that'll be mentioned in the rest of the thread
all my in my(tightarse) opinion etc

Just bought a Morphy Richards bagless hoover from Tescos for less than £70 with a 2 year guarantee. Works the same as a Dyson but costs a fraction of the price and seems to work just as well (had a Dyson a few years back and after a year it kept breaking and was a total waste of money)

Dyson are great for carpets, but crap for wood floors. However, they are a little delicate, and you do need to clean the various filters regardless of the hype about no filters etc.
Henry's, well I have to "tip my cap" at those. I sepnt two years gutting / rebuilding my house, using my old henry to suck up everything, from brick bits, wet plaster, plaster dust, etc. 2 hard years that little devil never failed me once. Why do you think all cleanning company's use them ??
So, for me, Henry all the way.

I've tried loads over the years but always come back to cute little Henry because he rocks and is virtually indestructable
We demolished and rebuilt our chimney breast and created one hell of a mess but Henry coped with all the dust and rubble brilliantly unlike his Hoover predecessor. A quick wash of the filter and he was back sucking like the proverbial. He can be used with or without a bag too. The lead is long enough for me to virtually be able to do the whole house from one socket.
I've been down the Dyson route and am not a fan but good old Henry seems to take everything you throw at him and only costs about £100 My mum has had her Henry since 1990 and he's been through various house renovating projects, has spent time outside being used for car valeting and generally been battered and bruised but is still as good as new. She also has a Dyson but prefers the Henry.
Henry won't score you points on the Scoobynet vacuum cleaner credibility scale (you'll need a Miele, Dyson or Sebo for that) but is worth his weight in gold to me

Don't **** about with all these designers names with fancy see through bits. Having a flashy see through hoover that costs £300 isn't going to get you laid, oh and it'll be crap. It's a vacuum cleaner for ***** sake.
Do the proper thing, go and buy a Henry. It works and it'll last for ever.

I wouldn't touch a Dyson with a bargepole.
Our securicor delivery driver does the warentee failures "pickups" for the local area - there's generally 10 or so on his wagon.

We have a dyson and a henry.
Dyson is good, has great design but the one problem I have with it, is when cleaning the stairs, the suction is so great that the flexible hose is always being sucked back towards the actual machine, which means it's a real struggle to use, my wife and kids find it almost impossible to do the stair - or are they just being lazy?
Henry on the other hand is tougher than the terminator and sucks like the woman of ya dreams. Brick, dirt, leaves, unwanted toys henry eats them all!

I'll second the Henry Vacuum I used to work in a hotel where they were used and they were mini terminators like someone else said. Most hotels use them because they are practically indestructable!
