Am not allowed to give blood here in the states due to the risk of me having mad cow disease being English! CRAAAAAAAAAAZY! I think there is a rule that US citizens can't give blood within so many months of visiting UK for same reason!

I do. I always feel really good after giving blood. I know it makes a lot of people fell pretty crap. I think being a rare blood group (B- less than 2% of the population), makes you more aware - especially when you look on the blood stock levels.
If you're a blood donor, you should also sign up for the bone marrow donation scheme - the odds of a match are pretty long, but you never know. Apparantly only 1 in 12 blood donors are also on the bone marrow list.

Do they let people who are prone to fainting do it, when I had to have about 10ml of blood for blood tests I fainted everytime. Something to do with a drop in blood pressure.
God knows how I would survive giving a pint.

37 pints now. Used to ride a bike and thought I'd get in credit at the "bank" before I needed to make a withdrawal.
Gave up the bike and touch wood never needed to use any. But I keep donating just in case....
Registered as a bone marrow donor too. That seems an even more worthwhile thing to do. Dead easy to register and a tiny chance of ever being asked to donate. But if anyone ever does need it then they really do need it.

I did for about 15 years but am not allowed now due to kidney problems and the medication I'm on.
Must admit to missing the smug good citizen feeling I used to get after visiting the donor unit

Following major surgery last year and due to other medical conditions I'm no longer allowed to give blood
