Job advice help needed!
I cannot tell you how low i am feeling at this present moment.
Basically i detest my job and i am fearful for the future.
I have worked at my present employer for over 10 years now and things especially over the last few months seem to have gotten worse.
No matter how hard i try i feel i am forever having barriers put in front of me and forever taking abuse from the top and it has gotten to the degree that i am starting to question my own ability in what i do and i am asking myself would i be better off doing a nice easy job like driving a forklift? (or a bus)
I have discussed this with the powers that be and basically they dont give a hoot and i genuinely believe that they dont realise how hard my job is.
I feel my job is totally thankless
I know you will say leave - but for me the thought of this terrifies me.
I dont earn a massive wage (a shade over 20k) but i am scared that getting another job will result in a reduction or worse still not being able to find employment and ending up losing everything but i fear if i dont do something and quick it will send me over the edge.
I dont want for much - just enough to pay the mortage on my little house, go for a beer at weekends and run my car.
Has anyone been at their wits end like me and how did they resolve it?
I guess i am scared of taking the first step.
Thanks.

The first step is to look for another job. That way you will find out whether a) the jobs you want are available and b) if the money is suitable.
If you find you can't do your job at another company on the same money, then think about doing something else.
What is it you do, BTW?

it is easier to find work when you already have work so as you are employed look for another job and when you have been offered one then resign from your current job. There is no reason for you to be unemployed no matter how unhappy you are.

I am in pretty much a similar sort of role to you and I certainly agree that it is not the most fulfilling of roles.
I work for a pretty decent company - it is only my first job from uni. But if i'm unhappy working for a decent company close to home with ok ish people. Then its fairly obvious that its my role and industry that I don't like.
So for me it'd be a case of doing something totally different i.e. working outside, police, teaching etc. Not saying these roles are without problems but it gives you an idea of what I mean.
Don't let things get on top of you - take a step back from everything and try and deal with your situation at present calmly. If you start to really struggle you will find it difficult to make any changes.
Good luck and chin up

Horrible situation and I hope things get better for you, just make sure you have something else lined up and confirmed first before you leave your current job, no matter what happens you have to remain employed!
Do you buy plastic packaging perchance?

If it's really getting you down recently, take a few days, or even a week, off, holiday or for a cold maybe. Clear your head a bit.
Firstly, the reason most people stay in un-fullfilinf jobs, even relationships, is because it's better the devil you know, which is a natural feeling. However, it is rarely true, jobwise at least, so start having a gander for things you may enjoy doing, then see if they pay enough. A mistake I made when years ago was believing that I had to stay in my industry or risk a pay cut, but isn't necessarily true. Try and think what skills you have that could be used in another way.
Secondly, don't let anyone make you feel like you don't have options. Things are never as bad as they seem, and if your bosses are ****, so what? **** 'em! You don't have to work your fingers to the bone. They'll always try and get as much out of you as they can, but you've been there ten years and deserve respect, so tkae your foot off the gas slightly and try to relax a little about the job you currently have (easier said than done, I know) although I do not mean down tools and walk out!
Thirdly, even if you do take a temporary pay cut, there are ways to supplement your income. You may end up having to work a few more hours, but if it's something you enjoy doing, it won't matter.
Chin up, old chap!

there are plenty of buying jobs out there for good money. A lot around manchester for instance are 25k + with bonuses (girlfriend is a buyer who is currently looking)
Just register with a few agencies (hays are reasonable for buyers) and use holidays for interviews or have a day of sick etc. Dont know if you have got CIPS or MCIPS, but if you havent there are plenty of jobs out there (maybe not the big earning ones) that will actually pay for you to get that qualification.
To be honest I wouldn't bother being a hgv class 1 or 2 driver as you would struggle to earn decent money. I work in transport and you are limited to the hours you can drive. To earn decent money you would have to do a fair bit of work away from home, and also get a hazchem/ADR license as well to much for to little in my opinion.
